As of now I am giving this item a one. Mainly because I've had it for 6 months but only used for roughly 1 hr total. Unfortunately two days ago during pre-test for a video shoot the unit crashed. Crash occurred during an attempt to capture ProRes RAW. When switched back to ProRes HQ the unit just went black. Attempted a reset but nothing. The light is red but all that get is the fan kicking on every 5 seconds. Like it's trying to boot but can't. Support believes it's an internal card issue. So I'm sending it in and will up the rating if all goes well. For now, jut very disappoint I couldn't use during an actual project.

Fantastic ext monitor and recorder. I can use it outdoors during the middle of the afternoon without the hood on and see details perfectly.

The Inferno does so much that it's really difficult to learn on-the-job. Unfortunately, we needed it for the job we bought it for. It still didn't disappoint. We ordered and paid for overnight delivery (thank you Adorama). We researched the night before and we were able to at least functionally do the shoot with a happy client, which was awesome. However, the Inferno can do SO much more. We're learning between shoots and so far happy with the results. We have a Sony FS700 so we need this for 4K. The options to enhance our footage is certainly a big plus. I don't think anyone would be disappointed.

This is my 2nd Atomos unit I've owned. I needed to buy it after a client started asking for 4k raw and there's very few options to get this out of my Canon c300 mark II so I went with the Inferno. Prores raw is really an outstanding option. It's not RED, but it's far better than standard prores. I've been using a 7" SmallHD monitor on my camera for some time and this unit is noticeably bigger but not enormous in comparison. I've only shot a few tests with it and not used it on a job yet. But I've used the previous Shogun on an extended shoot and I know what to expect battery wise and otherwise, so I'm prepared. You should certainly expect to have a bunch of batteries with you.

Just got it, haven't used it in the field yet so I'll come back. But it is an amazing piece of equipment. Exceed what I expected honestly. It has some weight to it, so get items that will support hold a nicely weighted monitor.

This is an amazing piece of equipment...I am a beginner and have a huge learning curve to get through, this is easy to use and has what appears to be an infinite amount of options available. I upgraded the memory card to 1 tara byte, Now, I can run the camera for what seems like forever, without worrying about changing memory cards etc...

This is my favorite monitor, hands down. Works great with my FS5 mk ii, and has been used several times as an SDI recorded. Get a screen protector & cage and you’ll be set for years.

I was out on a shoot with clients, and the DC power input failed on the second day. Luckily I had fully charged batteries. I put the batteries in, and it worked. So the issue is the power input (power board) inside the monitor. This monitor is only a month old. Atomos was really helpful I have yet to call Adorama to see if they would like to solve this issue.

This is the perfect add-on with my FS5! I am now able to excess 10 bit raw, or even 12 bit if I wanted too. Having a lot of fun and would recommend to any professional film maker.

This is my second Shogun. I love Atomos and the fact they give me a higher bit rate recording and a larger monitor to view. The new dual battery slot is huge plus with this power eater. The ONLY thing I don't like is how much heavier and bulkier it is than the first one. I really don't see why it has 4 SDI inputs. If having only two would keep the weight/bulkiness down I would have loved that.

It took me awhile to figure out how to get back to camera image from the playback. Hitting REC in 'VCR' mode is very counterintuitive for ME. I was able to set up the Shogun with a Tricaster Mini, a JVC GY HM200 .Using a Decimator I was able to connect a SONY NEX FS100u and a GH4. Will recommend

We purchased this kit for Post-Production work. Great recorder/monitor with lots of capabilities. Would have been nice to have a SSD drive included in the kit, even if the price has to go up.

This has been a great purchase for me as an owner of a Sony FS700. It has extended the life of that camera and made it easier to use. The image quality of the Inferno is great and the brightness can't be beat. The package comes with all you'll need, except drives of course, including a great case.

Really like this monitor a lot. Color LUTS, focus assist, waveform, HDMI and bnc plus 4K recording. Use it as the uncompressed recording from my Sony A7iii. Tends to eat batteries, but you are getting a lot of monitoring options.

The Shogun Inferno is an incredible addition to my kit. The larger screen, exposure tools, and recording capabilities have vastly improved my shooting. I've been using with a Sony FS5, Sony A7SII and Sony A6300. It's helped negate the recording limit of the A7SII and A6300 and helped circumvent purchasing tons of SD Cards. Recording directly to an SSD that can be plugged into my computer for immediate editing has also cut down on rendering time. Absolutely recommended.

Doesn't matter what camera you have, or what your scope of work is, this piece of year is a must have. Great monitor and great recorder. Enables you to do some serious stuff!

I love the shogun inferno, but the accessory kit is a lot more crap than I needed. I just wanted batteries and a fast charger and a mount for the camera. But it doesn’t have the mount. Nor does it have an Sdi or hdmi cable. It does, however, have this bulky janky matte box that is impractal and hard to use in almost every situation

The recorder itself is exceptional and worth the additional functionality it provides like LUT support, anamorphic de-squeezing, etc on cameras that don't have these features. The kit is worth it as well, with a couple batteries, sun hood, cables, etc. Would recommend. Bought a separate screen protector as well to keep it shiny.

I’m using the Inferno to record ProRes RAW from my FS7. I have the original Shogun as well, and this is a fantastic upgrade! The actual panel is bright and the colors are spectacular. But the additional features, and refinements are especially nice having owned the original. Particularly the dual battery, and the way the Inferno holds the SSD so securely. It also does things which my original Shogun won’t, not the least of which is the ProRes RAW. This is a great upgrade!!!

I've been drooling over this thing for months and finally pulled the trigger. Needless to say, I am STOKED! Pros: - Hard case and inserts hold everything I need - Very user friendly and easy to use for a Hobbyist - Stores 8 LUTS for previewing (super helpful when it comes to post. - Multiple brands of SSD's that work with the recorder - ProRes RAW supported product Cons: - Plastic seems low quality - Battery power is sub par (use NP-F970's if you want them to last) - Sun hood is a pain to install & take down

Exactly as described. Incredibly bright even outdoors. Paired with our Sony FS700 it allows us to shoot 4K and continuous slow motion. Would recommend

We were looking for a larger monitor to supplement our Panasonic EVA1, and we were leaning toward Small HD. However, for the price, we ended up getting a beautiful monitor that significantly increased the performance of our camera. There are a lot of hidden costs but to just get started with a clear and useful monitor, this was perfect!

I have owned the original Shogun since it came out. I have been using is on my FS5 and upgraded to the RAW option about a year ago. Didn't realize how much I was missing out on until I purchased the inferno.

The atomos shogun presents a great recorder at a compelling price (with not having to purchase features separately via software unlocks like its more expensive competitor). If you camera has an internal recording limit, using this will allow you to bypass such limits. The quality from the recorder is superior to internally recorded footage on many cameras - particularly if the camera can output RAW. Recording RAW to ProRes produces files with a lot of latitude but still easy to work with. Cinema DNG is more tedious to work with (still sequences). The recorder is fragile though and not at all weather-sealed. One of mine broke from a camera guy dropping it from 4 feet up. It is fairly bulky as well, which can be cumbersome when using it with dSLR/mirrorless still cameras. I wish they would come out with a smaller screen version (with a display the size of a large smart phone) for smaller cameras.
