I took the dive and ordered this cartridge and if I had any regret it is that I waited too long to get one. The acoustics it delivers while mated to my Pioneer PL-630 and jacked into a Marantz 2275 is nothing short of pure bliss. Rich bass tones, crisp and clean guitar chops and snappy, sharp drumbeats are what you are in for if you love rock and Metal like I do. Another thing I have noticed with Audio Technica cartridges is when checked for proper azimuth with a Fozgometer I rarely have to make any adjustments to the headshell or cartridge itself. They are that spot on out of the box when mated properly to your tonearm. It's rather scary but oh so sweet. So in closing, if your procrastinating about getting this cartridge then take it from me, procrastinate no more! Your ears, mind and soul will thank you!

This cartridge is an improvement over the 150MLX. It has a much better midrange and is not so harsh at the top end, while still maintaining good highs. It seems to have a little higher output and sounds almost as good as a MC cartridge. In general, AT MM cartridges are durable and easy to set up.

This is a question I ask ever time I play a record with this thing. This cartridge is worth at least a couple thousand dollars in sound quality, so I feel like I stole this cart and need to turn myself in lol. There is a major realism that is in effect as the instruments are so clear and crisp, that you feel like the instruments are being played right in front of you as opposed to on a recording. And also as advertised, this SLC tip extracts every bit of info from the grooves, and I can hear little details that even my OM40 FG70 stylus hid or didn't show at all. I would venture to say that this is quite possibly the best MM cartridge that can be owned, and could very well compete with some of the best MC carts. If you doubt just how real this thing can be, get it for yourself and make sure the rest of your system is able to help this cart sing like I'd wager only it could. Get it, and have a live studio session or live concert experience in your very home!

Like PJ, noted in his review, I experienced a great deal of buyer's remorse after submitting my order for this cartridge. And I considered not opening it and returning it. I've gone through quite a cartridge journey since getting back into vinyl more than a decade ago. From MM cartridges under $100 to MC cartridges over 1K. I've gone back to MM cartridges because I've found you really need an expensive (2K or more) phono preamp to get the most out of MC cartridges. I've tried many MM cartridges and had not been terribly pleased with two of the most expensive MM cartridges I've owned 2M Black and Clearaudio Maestro V2. So, I had found a couple of MM cartridges in the $300-$400 that I was very pleased with (Ortofon MC-3 Turbo & Nagaoka MP-150). Several years ago I owned the AT150MLX and wanted to try the VM760SLC but again was buying it without hearing it and really worried about throwing away a good deal of money. I took the big leap and opened and mounted the cartridge on my tonearm and man am I gad I did. I've found a new favorite cartridge! This cartridge delivers the best virtues of a different cartridges I've owned into one cartridge! I have found that cartridge I've been looking for. With a deep, non-muddled, powerful bass and very detailed, non-colored mids and highs this cartridge is a stunner. I don't have that burning desire to keep trying different cartridges anymore. I've found what I'm looking for.
