Better technology, better sound
By using a planar magnetic driver instead of a cone-type speaker, the EL-8 offers exceptional transient response and extended bass - virtually flat to 25Hz - along with the lowest Total Harmonic Distortion. These qualities help put you "right there" with the artist.

Two versions
The EL-8 comes in two flavors: open back and closed back. If you want the most open and "ethereal" sound, then the open back version is your choice. However, because the headphone is open, there is some sound leakage. If you need more sound isolation at the expense of a slightly less expansive soundstage - but with some added bass presence - then the closed back version is your best choice. In terms of visual differences, the open back model has a grill on the earcup, while the closed back model is solid.
