I've owned a pair since Sumer 2015. Heavy use. After a year, the inner foam cover split. If I wear them over 2 hours, it makes the top of my head sore. I am aware you cannot fit all heads properly as that would be an impossible task to overtake. Poor battery slot design so the battery is hard to replace. When battery runs out, there is a loud pop noise. I love the sound (I veer towards heavy bass sounds). For the price, I would not recommend to a friend.

After having a pair of Bose quiet comforts I decided to try audio technica. I immediately noticed the noise canceling was sub par and carried a static hiss compared to my nose. Sound quality sounds a bit drowned out without the noise canceling feature on. To top it off my ear cushion liner split after minimal gentle use.

Have bern using these for over 2 years, still going strong. Have repkaced the 3.5mm cable with a stronger 3rd party one with mic which works fine. Excellent sound quality, case, but wish battery life was a little better for going both ways on 20hr long hauls, but the pair takes 1 AAA so carry a spare or two. Love travelling with these!

The noise cancelling is effective but over all don't bother. After 2 months the right earcup split, releasing the inner foam. Then the left one split. i paid $40 for another set and they lost my order. They finally sent the replacements and I couldn't put them on. Also these are extremely bassy phones and the mid-range changes depending upon whether or not you have the noise cancellation on. The mid-range is muddy without it on. I finally threw them away. I expected more from Audio-Technica!

I have had these headphones for over a year and I like these headphones a lot. They work very well and are comfortable on long distance flights and make a huge difference. You would be amazed how much nicer it is in cattle class with these headphones! The only problem I have had is that somehow the cell-phone type cable broke even though I haven't been using it.

They are comfortable, sound great and look nice. After a couple of months of use the active cancelling started acting up. Now I have a low rumbling/vibrating driver on the left side of the set. This only happens when the NC switch is on but I use the noise cancelling all the time meaning that it happens often. This is very annoying specially when tilting my head to my right side, this makes the rumbling/vibration even more pronounced. I will be contacting the service center to see if this can be fixed but this shouldn't happen at all. Reading the other reviews I noticed that others are experiencing the same issue.

I have been using these headphones for more than 2 years and have not experienced any of the problems described here by some users. These headphones are comfortable to wear for long periods and they certainly block out a lot of engine noise. The sound is smooth, detailed and focused, with the tightest bass that I have ever heard. However there is one major issue due to poor design of the battery compartment. Most products that use AAA batteries rely on one of the terminals having a small amount of flexibility or springiness so that the battery, once fitted is constantly pressing against both terminals and will not suddenly disconnect if knocked. This is something that has apparently been overlooked by the designers of these headphones, as the battery fits very loosely, with very little pressure against the terminals. I travel on a bus often and whenever the bus hits a bump in the road, the battery disconnects and the sound cuts out. This is extremely annoying.

I was excited about this product and got a fantastic deal of the major online retailer but pair I purchased developed a faint high pitched squeal which I tried to ignore but gave up and returned them, I asked for a replacement pair bc I loved them so much, minus the issue, but of course the second pair not only had that high pitched squeal but also had an additional problem, the noise cancelling was not even in both ears, and I could really feel it, I could notice the difference and couldn't handle it. Please AT fix these issues. My previous pair ant-anc7b was fairly good pair, my cord got damaged and my ear cups leatherette covering the foam came apart at the glue, which I stitched together.

I've had the Bose QC15 and Soul SL300 in the past but I prefer my new ACN9 over them. I like the sound quality over both previous headphones and the noise cancellation is almost as good as the QC15. It does produce stronger bass which I prefer, but overall the sound quality is well defined. The headphones are very comfortable and appear to be well made. I’ve had them for only a couple of days so reliability is undetermined. I did recommend this same pair to my friend who travels often. He went with me when I purchased mine and he borrowed it over lunch. We went right back to the store and he bought the other pair in stock. I did purchase the extended warranty thru my retailer so I don’t have to deal with some of the issues I’ve read about on this website.

I bought these in preparation for a 15 hour flight. Worked like a charm! Noise cancelling is excellent, managed to sleep well on the flight because of it. Removable cable made moving around on the flight without removing the headphones possible. I took extra batteries in case but so far I am still on the original one.

I bought it right before a 5-hour flight. I wore it all along and they fit comfortably. I did feel the urge to lift them from time to time to refresh my ears, but I guess that is normal when you enclose them with something for that long. The sound was really good, though I am not an expert in the field. The one thing I can definitively say is that the investment was well worth it.

Seems I have the same problem as many other posting their review here... The noise cancelling device stopped working after a year (first the left ear and now the right one)

The quality of sound speak for himself. I have tried Beats By Dre and Bose, but the best combination of precise sound and huge noise canceling is present in ATH-ANC9. They still working after battery runs out (but without noise canceling, of course) and the control cable shipped with product works both with my Nexus 4 android phone and my Ipod / Ipad. Battery life is about 15h with rechargeable NiMh.Awesome.

I am preparing for an airline trip, and decided I want some noise cancelling headphones. I did a little research, and found the audio-technica line to be within the price I wanted to pay. I used to install professional presentation systems, and I knew this to be a top-notch brand. I am not disappointed. I cannot vouch for the reliability yet since I just bought them, but so far so good. I was so surprised by the quality of sound, that I ended up listening to music last night for four hours. I turned on the noise cancellation and lost myself in the music. I haven't listened to music like that for a long, long time. I highly recommend this product.

The sound quality of these headphones are great, but after the first month or so, the noise-cancelling function just stopped working, which defeats the purpose of why I bought these headphones in the first place. They are great if you want to spend an outrageous amount of money for a very limited amount of a very enjoyable listening experience.

I bought the ANC9s at an airport as when I tried them on their sound quality was so brilliant. However, after enjoying them for one flight, I was plagued with incessant problems with the headphones. First, the noise canceling ability basically stopped working. I explained my problem to customer service and they told me to send them to their HQ in OH, which I did. They then, without informing me, sent the headphones back to me informing me there was no problem. I spoke to the head of customer service explaining that the same problem remained, and he told me to send them in again, at my expense both times. This process took a couple of months. This time after some pushing, they sent me a new pair. The new pair worked fine for about half a month before the left ear phone (the housing for the battery) began crackling all the time making it near impossible to enjoy listening to any kind of music. I haven't even bothered contacting customer service. I would not recommend purchasing ANC9s unless you are looking for a way to make your life significantly worse.

I started using ATH-ANC9 QuietPoint to eliminate airplane noise on transatlantic flights. These headphones provide excellent sound quality sound eliminating 95% of jet noise. Most of the time battery lasts over 15 hours which takes care of most of the flights. Headphone ear paddings are very comfortable, soft and snug. I recommend these to anyone who travels a lot. They are well worth it.

Very comfortable. They goes over entire ear, so they block large chunk of noise just by that. NC is not intrusive. Compare to headphones from company which "makes better sound through marketing" ATH sounds superbly. If you do not want to sacrifice sound quality for NC, this is perfect choice. Down side - they are quite big. But they come with very nice semi hard case, they work on AAA (which last quite long) and comfy on train or plain.

I have been an Audio Technica user for quite some time now, and I have to admit the ATH-ANC9 headphones are so impressive. 1) The new Tri-Level Cancellation is so easy to use and extremely useful. 2) The headphones are extremeley comfortable. 3) Most importantly, the audio quality: it is second to none. I have tried all the major companies ie. Bose, Beats by Dr. Dre and Sony... Not only the noise cancelling feature is better, the sound quality and bass is simply remarkable.

The ATH-ANC9 provides three noise cancellation modes that adjust for high, medium and low ambient noise. This may sound like feature creep . . . but the result is quite impressive. This feature almost eliminates the "water pressure" feeling that I encountered with other noise cancelling products. In addition the lower the ambient noise / noise cancellation setting the higher was my perceived overall fidelity of the sound. I dig this product . . . TWO THUMBS WAY UP!

The Audio-Technica ATH-ANC9 is a noise canceling headphone. It uniquely offers modes for aircraft, study and office. It is a high precision ANC circuitry combined with two microphones, which reduces environment noise up to 95%. It is very light as it weighs just 220 g. It has 40 mm drivers built in to it. In the flat battery scene, the headphones can still be used in the normal operation mode.
The ANC9 ear pads provide a very comfortable fit as it makes use of memory foam. The headphones have controls available for controlling music and even allow you to manage incoming calls on your smartphone.
