Mark M : Can an audio extension cable be used on this mic to increase it distance from the video camera?THOMAS M : Hi Mark, yes, you can use an audio cable between this mic and your camera input. The only situation I have run across where there was electrical interference with a 25 foot cable was in the studio where there was a lot of lighting, audio and electrical cables in close proximity to the cable. A shielded cable should solve that problem. I have used this mic for over 3 years consistently for lots of ENG work and it has proved to be one of the best investments for the money I have ever purchased. I work in extremely loud environments where an omnidirectional picks up too much room tone. This mic has not failed to handle every situation with clear, clean audio. If I paid $150 for this mic it would still be a good deal. I highly recommend this product.ASHLEY M : Yes, I use one with it. The original is very short.STEVEN D : yes, you can buy one at your local radioshack if you are in a pinch.BRUCE W : Try it, but since the mic puts out an unbalanced signal, you're likely to increase noise--decrease signal/noise ratio. In other situations with unbalancd signals, i've gone 10 feet without much noise.YARIV D : Haven't tried, but I don't see why not, it has a regular headphones plug as input. Note that in my experience this mic is generating quite a bit of static noise already, the extra cable could potentially make that problem worse.

Useful on video cameras phones for the price.

This mic worked fine for about 4 years until I started using it near the pool. I believe moisture did it in finally. _Great camera/cell-phone mic for home use for the money (you need a TRRS-to-TRS adapter to use this with a computer). For in-room or close-up outdoor recording the cardioid setting worked great, either from the camera or hanging from a boom. Noise only really became a problem using the more powerful supercardioid setting, but I found I could clean it up using noise-removal apps in post production (download Audacity sound editor free). Supercardioid picked up my dad talking in a soft voice from 15 feet away, but hiss needed to be removed in post. _Because I used this to make semiprofessional music videos for Youtube, to improve the recording quality and remove hiss, I bought an iRig cell phone amp for this (best used at no more than 1/3 volume to reduce noise).

Great mic, does what I need and more.

I'm seeing a lot of older, negative reviews about audio and the battery not fitting. Perhaps things where change with later versions, because with mine, the battery fits normally and the audio quality is superb. In my case, I bought this to use with a H4N recorder and mounted on the parabolic microphone I built. To my surprise, this worked out perfectly. It's very sensitive and I'm able to pick up clear and crisp sounds from great distances, using the parabolic dish. I do recommend this mic for projects where a shotgun mic is needed.

affordable but noisy

This mic is ok, but not much better than the built in mic on my Vixia. In my experience it generated significant amount of static noise. it is ok for general outdoor use, but not for interviews.

Great affordable shotgun mic!

This product worked perfectly with my Nikon D7000. If high-pro quality results isn't a requirement, this is a perfect product for everything else. Great for On-the-GO video shoots.

Good MIC but NOT STEREO

I got this mic to improve my camera's audio recording, it works well, the sound is really good even in super noisy and loud conditions. However this is a MONO microphone, the audio comes out of the left channel only on a stereo setup.
