This is an excellent beginner microphone, however it is designed in a way that may cause functionality issues with cameras that output bias voltage (plug-in-power) through the microphone jack. The issue appears as the microphone not being detected when it is switched to the "FAR" mode. It works completely normally on "WIDE" mode. The microphone works normally in WIDE mode because there is a 4.7 uf capacitance on the output jack when the mic is selected to WIDE mode, this blocks the bias voltage from the camera. When the microphone is selected to FAR mode, there is no capacitor in series with the cable, and it appears to the camera as a purely inductive/resistive load. The camera switches off the external mic input when the input voltage is too high. The fix I had to make was to add a 47uf capacitor in series with the mic pcb output wire to block the DC bias from the camera.
