Review Summary
2023-01-05T08:01:08
The Roland F701 piano is priced below several of the other larger options in the Roland digital range of home pianos, but at this price point it provides significant value relative to the instrument's capability. Before selecting this option, we tried several digital alternatives from Roland, Yamaha, Kawai, etc. We also briefly considered several acoustic options, but we were particularly interested in the flexibility of digital for the benefit of headphone-enabled practice. We have several pianists in the home, from retired-concert-trained to beginners. Everyone is delighted by the Roland F701 key board action, the weight and feel of the keys, and the simple digital interface. And we are all absolutely charmed by the slim, slender profile of the instrument! The Roland F701 makes for an excellent, minimalist alternative to an acoustic piano. Our taste abhors the bulkiness of traditional grand pianos or even uprights. This is slender enough to tuck out of the way without obtruding, yet attractive enough to be a fixture in our home. Bravo! Compared to other digital options, the polyphony capabilities of the F701 are admittedly more limited but the price to sophistication ratio is sufficient for our needs. The piano bench is not as elegantly understated as the piano itself, unfortunately. The bench is made of heavy steel and looks quite clunky by comparison. Alas. The bench, however, is an afterthought in this review and should not factor significantly when considering the instrument. Prospective buyers should be aware that the Roland F701 will require a touch of home assembly. The package was fairly large--approximately 5 feet long, almost 3 feet wide, and a little over 1 foot tall--and rather heavy (approximately 120lbs). The process of assembly is very straightforward for anyone that knows how to use a screw driver. There were about 20 screws in total, plus some adhesive cord management devices (we could do with a few more but we can get these elsewhere). The instructions are provided in several languages, though the steps are so simple as to need nothing but half a page of diagrams. **Additionally, I decided to write this review to thank Adorama and the shipping carrier, "Team Worldwide," for their thoughtfulness, care, and efficiency in helping us with the purchase and delivery. We are very pleased and satisfied with the entire experience. Thank you.
