Shopper : where and how do you place the battery?NILES H : Changing the battery is somewhat difficult actually. It take a standard 9 volt that goes in the main part between the shoe mount and the mic. You have to push up a plastic panel to reveal the battery compartment.DAVID G : See page 6 of the manual on Rode's site ... rodemic-dot-com/mics/videomicpro ... choose "download" then "product manual"STEVEN J : Thats very easy and simple: it´s right underneath the microphone, just over the hot shoe. On the picture is is under the text: "RØDE" behind the small silver-bullet BTW: the mic. is very good and handy in use.BILL K : The battery goes in a little compartment on the front of the mic. You can see it in the photo, with a gold-colored dot on it. Just press the door inward and upward on the door and it will become free. It takes a 9v battery that will face towards the inside. Once the battery is in, put the top of the door back in place. There is a small latch at the top and the door goes under that latch. Then swing the bottom of the door back into place and press downward to secure it. If you're still having trouble, let me know.
Shopper : is there a warranty?SHAYA T : 1 Year Mfg Warranty

Solid pro mic, great for Videography

Wedding videography. www.marklaing.com for samples. The battery is very fiddly to get in but once in, the 9V lasts a long time. The whole structure feels somewhat flimsy but is actually well made and brings a wonderful sound to the game - way better than the in-camera mic. I've used several of these from LensRentals before buying so be careful about the connections...you have to test before shooting to make sure the small jack is inserted properly. Overall a good product. I'm still waiting for the digital version they promised back in Jan 2013.

Maybe I didn't master usage but...

I'm not entirely sure what difference this device made to the recording. If you're looking for top sound quality, this may not be your product.

Nice Mic

So far this seems like a great mic. Works well with many different devices. That battery which is not included is a little tough to install.

"Smart design, light as a feather..."

This is a little gem. A must to eliminate autofocus or camera handling noise. Rode has a winner in a petite package. I'd would like to see a better tether for the ample cord... but a minor point. Adorama included this with a camera body purchase and I am so glad they dd. Thanks Adorama!

ok mic - thats all

this is an ok mic but changing the battery is nearly impossible. that and you can break the entire device or maim it trying to do so. I hope the battery lasts a long time because changing it is like open heart surgery. The sound is ok, the mic is really cheap and flimsily made. This should be a $40 mic. Not for pros or even close.

good, affordable moicrophone

I wish the instruction manual was a little bit more descriptive in terms of explaining the settings.

Great on camera mic

On camera is not the best place for sound, but if its your only option this is definitely a great choice

Good sound, awkward mount, battery acces

A slight improvement in sound over a Sennheiser mini-shot that got corroded by leaving the batteries in. Definitely an improvement over the build in camera mic on a 5D. However, the isolation mounts are fragile and battery compartment so akward to access that it interferes with what I'm focused on. Recommend for sound, with reservations for handling.

Better Than Expected.

Use to interview testimonials and street interviews attached to a Zoom H2. It is clear, with low ambient noise. Plastic body needs kid gloves when handling. Seems durable but not indestructible.

Works awesome, seems fragile

Works amazing on a DSLR. I'm using it on a Canon 60D and the +20 gain really helps get a solid strong signal to the camera so that the built-in pre-amps don't have to work as hard. The only negative is that it seems a bit fragile. The rubber-band suspension feels and looks delicate, and built-in audio cable seems very thin - but I've no problems yet. The functionality and sound quality are definitely up to the price range but the design and physical build feel like they should be at half the price.

Nice Mic! Super Fast Shipping

First impress this mic was nice. Lightweight and looks like good quality. The shoe mount seemed cheap but so far held onto my hot shoe without any issues. I didn't realize it didn't include a batter but luckily I had one laying around. Installing the battery wasn't as hard as what I've read online. Simple and straight forward. The shock resistent bands seem like they cane easily come off or wear. We'll see how well they hold up long term but the good thing is that it comes with extras.

Good sound poor design

This is my 3rd Rode video mic. They have all broken at the hot shoe. This newer version also has terrible elastic band system that is constantly falling off and causing trouble with the sound.

HDSLR must have.

If you are shooting video with an HDLSR you need one of these.

great tool to have in your video arsenal

I use this mic on my Sony NEX-VG10 and it works great. I got some help from Rode support to optimize the set-up for best results depending on the location i.e indoor or outdoor

I can hear everything I want to hear!

I own the NIKON d7000. When using the video option the internal Mic's best feature is picking up camera sound. The Rode Mic is very versatile and completes the d7000. [...]
