Update

To update my comments on the silicone band issue above: I purposefully dismantled the shock mount to get experience reassembling it. And my experience is that this is a project. If the thing comes apart in the field, you'll be keeping people waiting around a while. If you lose one of the bands, the mic becomes useless.

tough to say

For my Panasonic TM700, started out trying Azden, which is well-made but dated, offering 2 audio improvement adjustments: on & off. Went to Rode VidMic, which has secure shock isolation and decent sound but really meant for static tripod mounting. Too large & wobbly for hand-held cam. Now am trying Vid Mic Pro. It's light and proportionate with the camcorder. Produces decent sound quality, but wonder about the 'tough ABS plastic'. Australian-made, Rode's shock suspension systems also seem the audio equivalent of Mad Max. 4 rubber bands of 2 different sizes wind complexly around the body & shoe mount, and you really need the instructions to get them reattached. When one band comes loose, they all do. We'll see....
