The Avantone CK-40 Stereo Multi-Pattern FET Microphone stands as a pinnacle of professional audio equipment, delivering unparalleled performance that rivals the industry's most esteemed stereo FET microphones. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, the CK-40 boasts a robust brass construction, ensuring durability and a high-quality feel that audio professionals demand. The microphone's exquisite Cabernet Wine-Red finish, complemented by polished nickel trim and grill, adds a touch of elegance to any studio setting.
Engineered with Discreet Class A Low-Noise FET circuitry, the CK-40 captures audio with exceptional clarity and a low noise floor, making it a perfect choice for capturing nuanced performances. The twin LARGE 35mm center-terminated pressure gradient transducers are expertly configured in a tight vertical array, facilitating precise stereo imaging and eliminating phase discrepancies. This design feature is critical for achieving accurate spatial representation in recordings.
The CK-40's innovative top capsule/grill assembly can rotate up to 90 degrees in relation to the lower capsule/grill assembly, providing flexibility and ease in adjusting to various stereo recording techniques, including XY-Coincident and Blumlein, as well as M-S configurations. With independent multi-pattern selection for each capsule, the CK-40 offers versatility to adapt to a wide array of recording scenarios, from group vocals and room ambiance to piano and instrumental sessions.
Each capsule comes equipped with its own set of switches for pad, pattern select, and LF roll-off, allowing for independent control and fine-tuning of the recording characteristics. The selectable -10dB pad ensures that the microphone can handle high SPL sources without distortion, while the 80Hz high-pass filter switch is essential for eliminating low-frequency rumble and maintaining a clean, focused track.
The CK-40 operates seamlessly on standard 48-volt phantom power and includes a 5-Pin mic cable that connects to the provided 1x2 stereo splitter box. From there, two standard XLR mic cables can be used to interface with any phantom-powered mic preamp or console channel. The inclusion of a Custom Retro Shockmount not only allows for precise microphone positioning but also significantly reduces the transmission of unwanted vibrations, contributing to the microphone's ability to produce pristine, professional recordings.
With its array of sonic and spatial options, the Avantone CK-40 encourages audio engineers and recording artists to explore and trust their ears to determine the optimal stereo panning spread, the choice between Omni and cardioid patterns, or the application of M-S miking techniques to best suit their unique recording needs.
