This feature enhances the mixer's flexibility, enabling you to use a mobile device or laptop as a backup digital recorder, or to utilize up to 4 XLR microphones while shooting video with a smartphone or tablet. The FMX-42u can also function as an in-studio mixer for web streaming or podcasting.

Retaining the much-loved features of its predecessor, the FMX-42u includes 4 balanced XLR line/mic inputs with individual level and pan controls, switchable 48V phantom power and limiting per channel, and professional-grade VU meters for precise level setting. It also boasts a master level control, a 1k tone generator, 2 balanced XLR outputs (line/mic switchable), a stereo mini-jack output for DV cameras, and a headphone output with level control.

The FMX-42u offers dual power options, running on either 6 internal "AA" batteries or an optional 12V DC external power supply (Azden part #BC-27H). For ease of transport and protection, a ballistic nylon carrying case is included with the mixer.
