This high-performance microphone utilizes the same element found in Azden's professional-grade shotgun microphones, the SGM-250 and SGM-250P, ensuring broadcast-quality sound capture.
The SMX-15 stands out with its supercardioid polar pattern, achieved through acoustically tuned slots in the shotgun barrel. This design allows the microphone to focus on sounds in front of the camera, significantly reducing the capture of unwanted noise from the surrounding environment. This feature enhances directionality and off-axis rejection, making it a versatile tool for various recording scenarios.
Equipped with a level adjustment feature, the SMX-15 offers -10dB, 0dB, and +20dB settings. The +20dB gain booster is a valuable addition, designed to counteract the noise produced by low-quality camera preamps. Conversely, the -10dB pad ensures distortion-free recording in loud environments, such as live concerts or motorsport events.
The SMX-15 boasts a wide frequency response, ranging from 40Hz to 20kHz, delivering full and natural sounding audio. A selectable low-cut filter at 120Hz, 3dB/octave, is also included, ideal for reducing low-frequency noise from sources like air conditioners, wind, and traffic.
Powering the SMX-15 is as convenient as it gets, operating on two AA batteries without any degradation of audio quality over the battery lifespan. An integrated battery indicator LED light provides up to a one-hour warning before battery replacement is needed. The unique "Auto" power setting enables the microphone to detect when a camera is on, automatically powering on and off with the camera, thereby maximizing battery life.
The SMX-15 also features a custom, detachable foam windscreen and an integrated shock-absorbing shoe mount with a 1/4"-20 thread. This design isolates the microphone from camera motor and handling noise, ensuring clear and undistorted audio. The mount fits standard camera shoes and can be easily attached to boom poles and other camera accessories, making the SMX-15 a truly versatile addition to your video recording equipment.
