This unique feature allows you to choose between utilizing 100% of the stereo microphone, 100% of the mono-shotgun microphone, or any mix in between, giving you unprecedented control over your audio capture.Whether you're recording a dialogue scene and want to incorporate some of the environment's ambience, or capturing a musical performance and need to tighten up the center stereo image, the SMX-30V has you covered. This versatile device is essentially a stereo microphone, a shotgun microphone, and an audio mixer all combined into one compact unit.The SMX-30V houses three microphone elements in total: two at the top, angled at 90 degrees for capturing a realistic stereo image, and one inside a 4.5-inch long interference tube for directional audio capture. The stepless mixing knob gives you complete control over how much signal from each microphone to send to your camera.Another standout feature of the SMX-30V is the swiveling shock-mount, which allows rotation of the microphone 30 degrees to the left or right. This feature is invaluable when your sound source is not centered in-frame, enabling you to aim the microphone at your subject for the most direct sound capture. The mount itself is designed to absorb vibrations and isolate the microphone from handling noise, and can be attached to a standard camera cold-shoe slot or via a 1/4"-20 threaded stud.The shock mount, made from a virtually unbreakable composite material, effectively isolates the microphone from the vibrations created by handling a camera. It's designed to mount on top of a camera's cold shoe, with a threaded 1/4"-20 tap also available for boompole and accessory bar mounting.The SMX-30V boasts an improved battery life, lasting up to 100 hours on a pair of alkaline AA batteries. It also features a detachable output cable with audio output via a 3.5 mm mini-jack, providing flexibility to connect various third-party audio cables. A high-quality, coiled microphone output cable is included with the microphone.Additional features include a Low-Cut Filter to reduce low-frequency noise from sources such as HVAC systems, wind, or passing cars, an Auto Power Setting that turns the microphone on and off with your camera automatically, and a 3-Step Gain Control with +20 dB, 0 and -10 dB settings. Unit was physically as described.  Good quality construction.  Suspension was sturdy and not floppy rubber band like.  The stereo/shotgun variable feature on the fly worked well and a novel feature to have in one mic?versatile.  Overall, the unit was a bit too bulky for my needs.  For outdoor settings and in a car for example, the recording quality was fine.  For a quiet room the self noise was a bit much.  I could reduce noise to almost zero using a noise filter set to 5% reduction.
