This is a good, fairly compact tripod. It's not the lightest (with aluminum you trade expense for weight) but it is not heavy. You can definitely carry it in the nice provided bag (with ball head attached). It extends quite high, even without the center column. With the center column raised, my camera is over my head (5'10"). The center column can be extended at just about any angle and locks down tight: great for macro work. You may still want to use a timer on the shutter in this position. The downsides: It suffers from the usual problems associated with 4 leg sections, aluminum construction and narrow legs. The center column does not raise smoothly. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning. All in all, this is a very good value, great for indoor macro work and light hiking/outdoor use on a reasonable budget.
