Great tripod. Took it's with me on a trip to Iceland. Fit easily inside my backpack. Not heavy but not extremely light. Good for windy conditions. Has a hook on the bottom to hang counterweight from if wind is a problem. Only thing I wish it had was the ability to pan vertically. Differently head could be added for that functionality, though. The horizontal pan worked great and is super smooth. Overall great tripod; probably they only one I'll ever need. Camera used: Canon 40d w/ Sigma 17-50mm ex 2.8

Tripod easily collapses and is light enough to backpack and/or pack in a carryon bag. Smooth operation leading to excellent pictures. I purchased a Roadtrip Mephoto tripod last year to use with my DSLR and 150-500mm lense. I liked it so much that I purchased this one to use everyday. Definitely recommend Mephoto tripods.

The 51 inch is almost always to short. It's well made but one must be very careful when operating, if one is concentrating too much an the scene before him releasing the wrong knob which is incredibly easy to do can result in the camera crashing to the ground. The metal frame will vibrate like a spring when set to it's fullest extension, a phenomenon that caught be by surprise by how such a thing is completely contrary to what a tripod is all about. The camera can only be pointed downward when the head is in a very specific location. I originally purchased it for it's light weight but thanks to it's many shortcomings it's has become one piece of equipment that I never use at all anymore.

I bought this mainly for taking photos with my DSLR while camping and hiking. Quite honestly if I had anything bigger and heavier I just wouldn't take it along. The quality of this tripod is outstanding. The parts are strong and beautifully machined, providing silky smooth operation with no play. The 51.2 inch height might be a bit low for some, but it makes for a smaller and lighter tripod. I find it is the perfect height when I use a right angle viewfinder on my camera. Quite honestly I am content to lower the tripod and use it in a kneeling or sitting position as well. Lowering the tripod also makes it more stable. Fully extended, the five-section legs and two-section center column are not the most stable, but that is the trade-off you make when you want to go small and light. It still very useable, and what I expected from a compact travel tripod of this size and weight. It may be pushing the limits, but I use my heavy metal Nikon 80-200mm zoom on this if it is not windy. It's purdy too.
