Questions & Answers

Bill M : Where do you plug this into the PA system?VANCE K : Hello Mr Bill M. Using an AUX OUT from your main mixer console, you can (1) select what specific signal source you would like to hear at your monitor station. Also at the main mixer console; (2) you will pick your source signal and select the AUX channel you are going to use, increasing the AUX OUT level to a comfortable hearing level.PETER W : Bill, I think that would depend on the configuration of your PA system. If you have more than one set of XLR outputs on your mixer, then I'd send one set to this device. You can also get "splitters" that will split your XLR output into two. So two splitters, one connected to each XLR output on your mixer (Left and Right) would mean that one set of outputs (L & R) could go to your amplifier or powered monitors and the other set would go to this device. In my setup, which is for a digital piano setup, I have two sets (L & R) of powered monitors. I had been feeding the main, XLR output to one set and I was getting stereo output out of them, and I was sending the Aux output, via balanced 1/4" output, to the other set of powered monitors (L & R). I discovered that the Aux output was not stereo. I then bought a set of splitters that will take each of the XLR outputs from my mixer and split them so that the left output goes to the two, powered monitors on the left and the right output goes to the two powered monitors on the right, effectively turning one set of XLR outputs into two sets of XLR outputs. You could do the same here by sending one set of outputs to your amplifier(s) and one set to this device, through a splitter on each side (L & R). My piano setup is a stereo setup as that yields a more realistic sound for my application, but most "PA" systems or "Sound Reinforcement" systems are mono. As such, if being in stereo isn't an issue for you, then connecting to an aux output might work for you. You can get 1/4" to XLR adaptors or cables that are balanced 1/4" on one end and XLR on the other as you'll probably find that the aux output, from your mixer, if it has one, is balanced 1/4" and the inputs on your device are XLR. A balanced 1/4" plug looks the same as the 1/4" end on a set of stereo headphones. You'll notice that there are two black rings around the tip which means there are three leads, Ring, tip, and sleeve. I hope this helps.BRYAN D : This unit looks very different from the headphone amp I bought, but the function is probably the same. However, I don't really know how you would use it with a PA system. The XLR inputs on this thing indicate to me that any signal going into it would have to be very low power, i.e., from a microphone or line output from a mixer board. I would think that running a high power signal from a PA amplifier into this little guy would blow it right out.
