EMILY F : does this work with sony a7riv?JASON A : I believe the Sony A7R IV camera USB-C port is only rated at a USB 3.2 Gen 1. You will need to check on that. If that is the case do not waste your money on a tether cable that is rated 10G since your camera will only output theoretically 5Gbps this cable would be overkill and more money than getting the 5G cable. However........the 10G would future proof you if you got a new camera thats USB C port supports the 10G..... The issue is marketing....10 is better than 5 so everyone wants it. but if your camera USB port cant handle it, then why bother. that 10G is not going to transfer your photos any faster once it leaves your port on the camera. I have the R6 II that supports USB C 3.2 gen 2 so up to 10Gbps but I use a 5G cable. if you look at the numbers, lets say my R6 II transfers a 40mb pic, it will take roughly 0.064 seconds, if I did it on a 10G cable then it would roughly be 0.032 seconds. so the difference is (32 thousandths of a second) you are not going to notice that. Now what you should be thinking is what are you tethering into? does your computer usb-c port have 5 or 10 or hight Gbps? hooking a 10G cable to a 5 Gbps port is not worth it. also are you tethering to Capture One (which is like lighting fast to show the picture) or LRC which is kind of slow to show the picture due to all the stuff it does. In short, check your specs on your camera, if it is only a 5Gpbs port do you really need to have a 10G cable? Check your computer port, no need to use a 10G if it is only 5 Gbps port. The cable is the cable.
