Epson Perfection V39 II Color Photo and Document Flatbed Scanner

The scanner arrived quickly, was packed well, and was in good condition. From then on, the experience went bad. I was never able to install the driver, so no actual scanning occurred. I contacted Epson Support (what a misuse of the term 'support'!) and discovered that the three people who took my calls had very little technical training. When I told them about the error message I kept getting, they should have immediately asked several specific questions and then told me that installing scanner drivers onto Windows 11 ARM laptops is highly problematic. But they weren't trained well enough to know that. And frankly Epson shouldn't be selling equipment that is unlikely to work with Windows 11 ARM laptops (especially with a USB connection) without a caution or disclaimer. We only know this much now because I finally googled long enough to know that it's the ARM aspect of the Windows 11 configuration that seems to be the problem and that using scanners with a USB connection is even worse. Be warned because Epson is sure not going to make that info easy to find. So now we're returning the scanner and having to pay to ship it back. I'm quite sad because this scanner has some nice features for people who scan books and booklets.

I just bought this scanner today after asking if it will scan black and white photos and was told yes it would. Well, it scans them, but all the gray tones are scanned as black. So, I ended up using my smart phone and taking a close-up picture of the picture so that I could print it. It is noisy also, but I knew that before I bought it.

I recently received the Epson Perfection V39 II as a gift and tried to use it on my 2020 iMac running macOS Sequoia. I installed Epson Scan 2 and Epson Event Manager, and the installer says the scanner is "registered and connected." However, I've run into several problems: * The scanner does not appear in System Settings ? Printers & Scanners. * It does not show up in Epson Scan 2; only my other Epson printer is listed. * The scanner light does not turn on, so I cannot scan anything. * I've checked USB connections and used a rear port, but it still doesn't work. It seems like the scanner may not be compatible with macOS Sequoia, but I'm hoping Epson can provide a driver update or solution. I'm leaving this review to share my experience and to ask if anyone has found a way to make this scanner work on Sequoia, or if Epson support can help.

I bought this scanner for its good reviews. However the connection to my MacBook Pro was a hassle. The software stalled and failed to detect and activate the scanner. After searching on the Apple community site, where users faced similar issues, the recommended solution to install the drivers downloaded directly from the Epson website's product page solved the problem. Now the scanner works well with indeed good quality scans. So Epson's better get their act together in solving the software issues - at least on Macs - for they do not do justice to a good product for home use. It is compact, stores easily and the fact it does not need a separate power supply is a great feature.

Same problem as "carondg San Diego CA. No power win using the provided USB cable to my Apple MacBook Pro M4 Pro. Do you make a USB cable for the Epson Perfection V39 II to an MacBook Pro M4 Pro? I tried using an adapter on the standard USB cable that came with the V39 II and the scanner did not power up. Please help!

I bought this scanner and it arrived today. It took it out of the box, downloaded the relevant software, and registered the device. The scanner is fully dead and cannot be activated or turned on using the USB cable provided. It doesn't even light up in response to being plugged in. Obviously, I have not succeeded in scanning anything. This scanner is a useless hunk of plastic.

I cannot get the scanner to work with my MacBook Pro. I've had a tech from Best Buy try to help and was on the phone with Epson support a long time who just took me on the same loop over and over. Downloading process would not advance past "Register your product" which I did multiple times, or get stopped at another step in downloading. No one could figure it out. Returning the product AGAIN!

Three days so far and yet to power the thing up. Not a computer guy so simpler is better. Seems like it should plug and play but does not. Not sure if I should beat up this stupid new imac or the scanner. Will try to return both. Can't wait for AI to come around and really complicate tech.

Great size, shape, and design. However, the product would never power on, and I could not get it to scan anything or communicate with my computer in any way. After hitting the forums and doing some troubleshooting online, it appeared that my USB A-C adapter might have been the culprit, ( even though the adapter works fine with other products - WACOM tablet, etc. ) After troubleshooting this problem, I figured I may have just got a defective unit. After replacing my initial purchase, I am STILL having the same problem with the replacement printer. For this reason, the V39 is total garbage as a scanner. If you are looking for slick little plate or drink coaster to have next to your workspace, this might be the thing for you!

Seems like a nice scanner at a fair price. But when you cannot get the drivers to install and the computer will not recognize the scanner it's just a pile of plastic. No thank you. Returning and looking for a more user friendly scanner!

It's a great scanner for photos, but next time I'm going to choose "jpg" vs "pdf". Not sure it makes that much of difference, but I would be able to incorporate other photos into my library!

Thought it was wireless but it's not - that's okay tho since I have C/A adapters to work with the HDMI cord which was included. Works great with my MacAir 12.6. I had to open each of the drivers before it would work, but it's scanned multiple documents & the scans are all clear. It's a bit noisy, but overall I'm very happy with this simple scanner after having to return THREE all-in-ones (different brands) that each had a defect not allowing set up. Simple often really is better.

Very basic product. Disappointed that it will not scan black & white photos which was surprising. It is very odd that there is no on/off switch so I have to unplug the USB cable. I have not had any issues with missing drivers that other people have reported.

Have had this for about 3 weeks. Basic scanner and does what I need, but definitley a very flimsy product. Also, despite what you see in FAQs there is NO dedicated power on/off button. Seems like a stupid choice on their part. Only thing they suggest is to set the power down setting in the app. I have taken to unplugging the USB cable so it will turn-off.

I just purchased this scanner for my MacbookPro and can't connect it. I purchased a USB-C to USB-A adapter, attached it to the cable and after downloading the software, connected the scanner to my laptop. Nothing. I tried the second adapter. Still nothing. I uninstalled the software, rebooted the laptop and tried again. Still nothing. Looks like I have to return the scanner and try to find another that works. Day 2: Support told me to buy an Apple adapter. It just arrived. I shut down and restarted my laptop, followed the directions on the screen and tried to make the connection when directed. Still nothing. Ridiculous.

I had a hard time downloading the driver and software packages for my scanner because I was using the Brave browser. If you use Safari, you will be asked if you wish to enable cookies. Say yes, because this is necessary in order to get the macOS selection drop down menu, which in turn is necessary to be able to download the necessary software.

I bought it to make digital copies of my old photos. Everything has turned out perfectly, although the build quality is not as good as it used to be (I have Perfection 2580 model that is STILL working today, 20 years later). The detachable lid feels a little bit flimsy. Otherwise, it has been a decent investment!

This scanner is an absolute joke. A complete waste of money and TIME!!!! The driver link to find the drivers is nonexistent. I have spent nearly an hour in my attempts to locate the driver download. The fact that I even have to locate a driver is absurd. There is a reason I love apple- everything is plug-n-play. An etch-a-sketch has more capabilities than this little black box. Do better Epson.

Thus far this machine has demonstrated the astounding ability, no doubt enhanced by AI, to imitate an inert black plastic box connected to my computer by means of a USB cable. Its stealth features render it undetectable. There are no lights. There's no power switch. There are no noises that might indicate intelligent life. I'll likely return this thing and attempt to repair the gears on my faithful old Canon scanner.

EPSON. try harder. this is one of those products which i would not recommend to anyone. inconsistent connection with the pc. hard to access drivers. lack of intuitive ui for the scanner. for those buying, please have a look at other known brands like H or C.
