Fiorella H : compatible with Sony RX100 II?TED T : YesWILLIAM G : I don't have the Sony camera, but if Sony had a standard screw on the bottom of the camera, I would say YES. While a VERY sturdy tripod, it is on the heavy side. You may want to look at a smaller/lighter tripod - Carbon Fiber would be much light, albeit more expensive.
LISA G : I have an Induro GH-1 that I want to use with this tripod. I want to use it for a Tamron 600 mm lens. Have any of you ever done this? I would like to know before I make this purchase.MICHAEL Y : I have used this tripod with a Canon D 60 and a 70-200 L/2.8 lens which is pretty hefty. I have had no problems at all but can nor really address you question honestly without knowing the differences in weight. If they are close, I would say you would be happy with the Manfrotto.
Shopper : would any 3/8" head with a fit this? I purchases a Dolica 3 way pan head and like it. However the set of legs I got aren't sturdy enough.STEWART B : from my experience any 3/8" head will screw over the stud on this tripod and lock downJames K : Yes, but only 3/8 inch. I have an older Manfrotto tripod that has a flexible retracting sleeve that would accommodate both 1/4" and 3/8" heads. For the price this is a good tripod. But if you are photographing in very windy locations it may be marginal. Manfrotto's premium line of tripods are carbon, cost around $500 to 600, but it is there leg diameters that are larger than other manufacturers and similar to Really Right Stuff, Gitzo, etc. which cost $700-900. I was lucky that my first experience with a photography store convinced me not to go cheap and I purchased and still use a 3021 Pro Manfrotto tripod. I spent $140 (on sale) in 2002 and still consider it the best value of all my camera equipment. This tripod is Manfrotto's replacement for the Model 3021. If you look around the Web you will see references to the Model 3021 being the minimum size for general photography. I actually purchased this strictly for macro photography. I will remove one set of legs and cut the other legs down to shorten the tripod. It will be stiffer because of the leg tube diameters and much cheaper than purchasing a macro photo specific tripod. I hope this helps.MICHAEL Y : As the completely satisfied owner of the Manfrotto 055xb Tripod I can only speak for the tripod itself and feel it would be sturdy enough for almost any photo task. I can not however testify that "any 3/8" head" would fit. I do not honestly know the answer to that portion of your question.

Sturdy tripod

Stability comes with a price but the added weight is worth it. The construction is rock solid and ready for abuse.

Get the BEST!

Why waste your time on something less than the best? My customers count on me, I need a tripod I can count on. That is why I only use Bogen - Manfrotto.

Reliable! Great Product!

I use this product for video productions and time lapse and long exposure photography. It's lightweight without a video head like a 501 attached to it.

Heavy Duty

I bought this tripod to replace my Manfrotto model 3401B that isn't available anymore. If it is as good as the one it is replacing it should provide good results. The 3401B is roughly 15 years old and has traveled thousands of miles in the back of a truck on Horses, and backpacks, used to support spotting scopes, cameras, binoculars and also as a shooting rest for Big-Game hunting. Would rate as a 5 but have not used it in the field yet. Will provide follow-up in a year or 2. However Adorama is the sole provider for our Outfitting business needs in the way of tripods, optics, and cameras.

Sturdy and easy to use

Great product. Mounting screw needed an adapter to fit the head that I use. (pistol grip).

from a tall guy

this tripod is great for that tall photographer, not as light as a carbon fiber but not as heavy as others i tried. the thumb locks are easy to use and the legs slide in out fast. it is a very stable tripod.

Just the basics

This is the basic no frills model. The center column doesn't tilt sideways, it's not carbon fiber, but it's amazingly solid and does what it should. This tripod includes the short center column, so you can get it very close to the ground. The three leg sections are nice since that 3 less locks to fiddle with for maximum height. It gets very tall even without elevating the center column. It's a bit heavy (and doesn't come with a carrying bag), so it's not ideal for long treks off road. The weight however gives it a nice feel of stability. The only improvement I would like is a level built into the top plate, and I'll probably rig that up myself.

Manfrotto 055XB Tripod

This is a very sturdy tripod and I use for all my landscape and wildlife shots. My only draw back to it is that it is very heavy, especially when you have other camera gear you are carrying. I guess that is what you get when you are looking at a good quality, sturdy, brand name tripod. I still plan on keeping it and using it every chance I get. I wished it had come with a built-in level though.

Great product for the low price

Great tripod. If you can't afford the 300- 400 hundred dollar ones. Gets down very low for macro.

Great Tripod

With tripods you generally get what you pay for. With Manfrotto tripods I find you generally get more. Great tripod.

All that I was looking for ...

I'm 6'2" tall and tired of constantly bending over to shoot. Its strong and sturdy, heavy but not terribly heavy. I'm very happy with it.

Quality Product!

When I first got into photography, I didn't think I would have much need for a tripod, so I bought a cheap-o to get me by on the rare occasion that I needed one. Well, needless to say, you get what you pay for. I quickly found that I needed something more solid, and that is the first thing I noticed about the Manfrotto 055XB. This tripod is sturdy and is well constructed. I have no doubt that it will last for many years if properly cared for. It provides all of the functionality that I need in a tripod, and is not too large when folded. Some people feel that this tripod is too heavy, but I am used to carrying a lot of gear anyways and I do just fine with it. I particularly like how the tripod can go low to the ground with the legs almost completely horizontal. The only disadvantage to this is that the camera is fixed in one place, and even with a ball head it provides limited flexibility. This was not a problem for the type of shooting I do, but if you need more control over low angle or macro shots, you should look at the 055XPROB. That tripod allows the center column to be placed horizontally for increased versatility.

HD Video - needed pro quality

Good value - light enough to not need carbon fiber version. Actually too light for dolly work (need to add weights). Never thought I would ever complain about lightness. Video of models almost always wants high angle ... these stix go up to a stable 6 feet,...

A Good Tripod

Using with the 7D for video. Works Great, very stable. I am looking into getting the Short Center Post as you can not go too low with the standard one. I have also shot with a HPX 200 on this tripod and it works great for that also. Stable like a heavy tripod without too much weight to carry.

Great tripod.

This was the least expensive tripod I could find with this weight rating. I use it with my medium format Hasselblad, for everything from night photography, to macro. It is of excellent build quality, rock solid, extremely easy to use, and a great price! One reviewer mentioned sawing off the center column, but that is completely unnecessary because it comes with an adapter that allows you to lower it all the way to the ground with full stability. You simply disconnect the adapter, pull out the center column, and spread the legs out, and boom the tripod is almost completely flat. Throw a ballhead on it and you're ready to go! It is not the lightest tripod ever, but for the price range and stability you get, I believe it is unmatched. I have no problems carrying it, but I am a bigger guy at 6' 4". I highly recommend it.

Great tripod for reasonable price

I've owned a number of Video Camera type tripods but as I moved into wildlife photography with larger telephoto lenses I realized I needed something better. I drove down to Adorama in NY to sample all the tripods available. This unit fit the bill. Relatively inexpensive, well built, clip type leg locks rather than the twist type and able to support a camera with a telephoto lens. It is extremely sturdy and it weighs a bit more than a carbon fiber equivalent, but this adds stability for the use I have.

Great first tripod

Love these tripod legs, but the center column is way too long and unnecessary. I plan to saw it off so I can achive low-to-the-ground shots.

Excellent piece of equipment.

It is every bit the great piece of equipment that I thought it was when it was recommended to me. As noted, it is quite heavy, making it difficult to use when one is hiking. This is no surprise, however, as Adorama provided all the specifications needed to make a decision.

For years I had a k-mart tripod. Spent years bent over to take pictures. When I upgraded cameras I decided it was silly to have an expensive camera on a $39 tripod. After much research I decided on this tripod. I have never been happier, with a tripan head I don't have to bend anymore. The horizontal feature is great for micros and with a cable release you don't have to reach for the button.

Rugged tripod

Just bought this tripod with 486RC2 ball head. Took it out to shoot fireworks on July 4th. But a thunderstorm showed up and fireworks were canceled. But I got several shots of lightning with exposures ranging from 1 sec to 3 sec. In a wind of 25mph (I guessed), the pictures came out without any blur that I can detect when viewing at 100%. The only thing I am not really satisfied are the caps of the tension screw. They are way too loose. I've already lost two out of six. I would hope that Manfrotto can send me some extra to prevent rusting of the screws.
