ANGELA A : How is the head different than say a 3 way?PAUL D : This is a 3 way head but is capable of micro adjustments.WILLIAM D : You can make consistent, precise, slow motion adjustments with the knobsMATTHEW J : The biggest difference is that it has geared knobs that allow you to finely adjust in all three directions. It has a release for each plane that allows large movements. Once you have it set in roughly the right place, you can then use the dials to get exactly in the orientation you need. It is perfect for when you really need to be precise.Shawn R : It allows more precise control. With a 3 way head when you tighten the fittings to lock the camera in place it often time slips a little. Many times this is not important. However, there are sometimes when very precise control is needed. A good example is planetary photography with a long lens. When trying to focus on a planet such as Saturn, simply releasing the locking mechanism on a 3 way head will cause the planet to be out of frame. Also, since it appears Saturn is moving very rapidly due to the earth's rotation, you constantly need to adjust the framing. Very difficult with a 3 way controller, but each with this geared head.JOHN P : Most standard 3-ways you unscrew the knob and adjust then tighten. Problem is once you tighten sometimes it doesn't stay in the same spot. With the 410 you can quick adjust for large changes or macro adjust for fine tuning, that way you can get the best shot possible.

All around great product!

This is the 2nd tripod I've bought for my company. I use this daily for RE photography, and it is incredibly efficient for setting compositions perfectly and quickly. Light enough and sturdy to pick up and set compositions hundreds of times per day.
