Shopper : Are the 2 ball joints smooth or do they have streaks to avoid slippage?MICHAEL S : The two balls are smooth, and I'm not sure of how the surfaces of the sockets are machined. They are locked to the bolt that tightens the clamp with some sort of lock nut. However, the balls are held very tightly by the clamp. The center position of the clamping bolt allows for adequate force to be distributed between the two halves of the clamp and to each ball.
H.J. B : What does 'without top' mean?LEROY H : I was disappointed with this ball joint. when tightened it did not hold wellTHOMAS R : The "top" is a mounting plate for a camera, buying this model will get you the double ball joint without the mounting plate.
Shopper : What does without a top platform mean?DEBORAH C : So far, I have not found any use for it without the platform... I thought it would be a good, heavy duty flash, umbrella adapter that could be turned in ANY direction and configuration...Since it has no hole for an umbrella, it it merely a "double knuckle" with a threaded pin on top and one on the bottom... Very well made but heavy... I've had it for some time and still not used it... Without the top platform, it is good for little more than a paper weight...THOMAS R : You can buy a double ball joint with a camera plate, enabling a camera body to be easily attached to the double ball joint.H.J. B : How does that effect usingSCOTT A : It doesn't have the camera platform shown in the photo.
