Questions & Answers

LORI L : Has anyone used this with an SB910 lately? How is the fit? Has that been fixed?BILL A : I don't have a problem using this clamp with an SB910.RUSSELL L : Hi, Lori, I use the Justin clamp fairly often with an SB-910. Works fine. There's no locking screw on the flash seat, but if you flip the locking lever on the flash you'll find that the whole thing is solid. The seat isn't metallic, so you aren't in danger of shorting your flash. Yes, as Joe McNally pointed out in one of his books, the earlier version of the Justin clamp was too tight. The current version isn't.
CHARLES S : How wide can this clamp open up to? I would like to securely attach a speed light to the top of a roll of seamless - about 3.5" wide. Other suggestions are welcome if this will not fit.JOSEPH P : The clamp opens to 3-1/8". I hope that helps.
Shopper : I use a Sony brand flash. Will it work with this clamp? If not is there 1 you recommend?Fred C : This clamp uses a cold shoe, so there are two things you must think about: 1) Connecting the flash to the clamp. If your Sony flash uses a standard hot shoe mount, it should connect easily. 2) Firing the unit - if your Sony camera can trigger your flash via a wire or wireless connection, then you will use that same method with this flash. In summary, as long as you can fire your flash off camera, this clamp will give you the convenience of mounting it to a variety of components for better coverage and to improve your lighting options.MITCH J : The Flash Shoe is an industry standard connector so it will work with any flash that is "hot shoe mountable."JANIS M : Flash shoe works with any strobe with a standard shoe. I use the clamp to attach it many places.Amy J : Thank you both. I actually would be happier with a cold shoe, but the connection is not the same as Nikon/Canon. I have a very hard time finding equipment for Sony equipment.JAMES P : I would think so but contact manfrotto to be sure.It is a great addition to clamp lightsMARK G : This has a "cold" shoe which means it is only used to hold the flash and has no electronic connection. It works with any flash but only to hold it in place. You must use a cord or remote trigger to fire the flash.MARTIN K : Shouldn't be a problem. The cold shoe is plastic and locking is friction, so if your Sony flash uses a standard hotshoe, you should be good to go.STEPHEN W : I don't know for certain because I haven't seen the size of the foot on the Sony flash or the hot shoe on a Sony camera. If these are the same size as similar parts on a Canon or Nikon it should fit.

Speedlite clamp

Good solution to a common problem, but too expensive! I think that is only objection.

A MUST have in your Bag

As a photographer for USA Today, I am always on the go and dont always have time to set up light stands. However, the Justin Clamp with the attached shoe by Manfrotto is a must have because of the versatility. You can attach it to trees branches, hide it in ceilings, etc. The strength and reliability will not disappoint you.

You Need One

Thanks to Joe McNally and Justin Staley for coming up with this ridiculous invention, which, if you're doing flash photography in a space where you can't use a lightstand you just gotta have. It'll go on a lightstand, it'll go on a tripod, and if it can't go on one of those it can go just about anywhere. Don't leave your studio without at least one.

The Perfect Gaget

This cold shoe flash clamp is a quality product. I am always concerned about my expensive flash units on other flash mount devices. This device is secure, flexible, rugged and worth the money.

Good, but...

Works great for clamping onto just about anything - curtains, stair rails, light stands (clamp to side when second-shooting, or mount to top). Only downside is the cold-shoe. It's not at all secure (at least with my SB900/910 or PW FlexTT5)... I modify all of mine with a standard (cheap) shoe mount and some 1/4 20 thread. Works like a charm.

Problem solved!

Conventional flash / umbrella adapters mounted my flash - shoe mount trigger combo too high. I just clamp this to the stand below the umbrella mount and it brings the flash head even with the center of the umbrella.

Required Equipment

I often photograph people in locations (e.g. bars, restaurants, shops) that may not accommodate a light stand, but I can always find places to use these to position flash heads. They also let me "make" booms from things that most places have -- like a broom. Lately, I use them more than stands.

Great for SB-800, not secure for SB-910

I use the Justin clamp with my SB-800 and 910's and absolutely love it. My only complaint is that while the SB-800 fits nice and snug, the 910 seems loose and can fall out of the hot shoe even after locked. It happened to me yesterday while on a shoot and the flash fell 4 feet to the ground, breaking the diffuser dome.

Excellent Accessory

This is an excellent addition to your off-camera flash gear. A very sturdy clamp with a great cold shoe... holds your flash secure and mounts almost anywhere. Has rubber "feet" on the clamp side, so works well as a sturdy flash stand, and also holds tight when you clamp to a door, railing, rod or whatever is handy. Also has stud to mount on a flash stand. Definitely recommend this. Trying to justify a second one because they are so handy...

Genius

Best way to get your flash off the camera and not worry about it. The ball head is great and allows precise positioning of the flash. The clamp is strong and attaches securely to anything. Totally worth the price. I'll be buying a second one soon.

Nikon SB 900 is a tight fit

The Nikon SB 900 does not fit comfortably on the cold shoe of the 175f. I think it's going to break the housing when I try to "jam" the flash on to it.

A Must Have Item

By dmcusmc

This is one the best things I have ever purchased! I take these clamps everywhere I go, weddings, sports, outdoors, I mean everywhere. Very solid build, very handy, compact, yet very very strong! These quickly clamp onto almost anything to mount a light with or without an umbrella. I use these with my Nikon SB-800 speedlights, for adding a 2nd, 3rd or 4th light for shots. A must have!

An additional version of the classic Clip Clamp. This Clamp has a positionable miniature ball head with a plastic flash shoe attachment to allow it to clip and position a flash unit wherever it is needed without shorting out the flash. Flexible in application and suitable for every kind of surface
