georgia m : i have the manfrotto 190L tripod but it is very heavy~ i was told the 294 was better, can you tell me the difference in weights, i can't find how much they actually weigh?! thanks gmTIM D : I just weighed mine on an infant scale and it is 3 lbs 15 oz. Hope this helps! :)ARTHUR N : I can't help there. I got the 190 for the home because the top will flip horizontal for macro work. Not having owned the 240 I wouldn't know but the man grotto web site is best place to find weight, that's where I looked for other infoWILLIAM K : If you want light, get the carbon fiber one. I think it's about a hundred dollars more, but worth it if you don't want a heavy tripod. I can't compare the one your interested in, but I'll say that the 190 is significantly heavy. It's a great tripod, but it will hurt to carry around all day.
PATRICK H : would anyone recommend this for night photography?JAMES V : Yes it is not bad for night photographySASIKANTH K : We normally use long exposures for night photography and hence a sturdy tripod is necessary to avoid unnecessary camera shake.Manfrotto 190XPROB 3 Section Aluminum tripod gives good support for the camera along with the lens.Hence I would recommend this tripod is conditions requiring to use long exposure and night photography.MICHAEL B : yesRUPESH M : Yes you can use this for night photography.
Shopper : is it good for the field? for macrophotography? which head would be best for it? does it come with the center column?SAMUEL P : It is a great tripod but a little heavy. I love the center column that can be positioned horizontal. I'm not sure which head would be good for you but I use a ball head from Giotto. The ball head will depend on the size and weight of your camera.SHIRLEY S : Sturdy, simple, reliable and reasonably stable. Good for field use, especially when used with Manfrotto carry strap. I like it for macro because you can spread the legs and lower it to only a few inches from the ground. The center column can be rotated to a horizontal position and function as a boom allowing you to shoot straight down. Because of the movable column you have to be a little creative in hanging a stabilizing weight but it can be done. Any Manfrotto head will work and I use both a ball and tilt-pan depending on need. Great bang-for-the-buck. I have two of them.JUSTIN J : This tripod is great for the field. It's not terribly heavy (although I don't recommend carrying it on your shoulder for more than a few miles). I use the Compact Ball Head with RC2 (496RC2) which is great for general-purpose shooting and can hold a lot of weight. For serious macro work, you'd want a head that would let you move the camera forwards and backwards in very minute amounts. This tripod comes with a center column. If you extend it all the way, then press the button on the bottom of the column, you can flip the column so it's sideways (parallel to the ground) which can be extremely useful for macro. Hope this info helpsGREG H : This tripod has worked very well for me. Yes it does come with the center column, and it has worked well for my macro photography. In terms of heads, I started out with the Manfrotto Compact Ball Head 496 which worked fine, but I ended up replacing it with the 498RC2 which works a little smoother and adds the ability to do panorama photography.RUPESH M : Yes, it comes with center column which is very useful. i use joystick head but there are different and cheaper head available. this tripod is heavy and stable if you are looking for macro-photography.MARCOS M : I use for macro but in studio, and it works for me,and for head I use a manfrotto 496rc2. And yes it has a center column

Manfrotto 190XPROB Black Pro Tripod

Great tripod, fairly light weight and very configurable. Own two of them, on for my wife and one for myself. We use these when hiking or biking on our photo adventures.

Good, solid tripod

This is a good, serviceable all-purpose tripod. It's well-made, adjustable enough for most tasks and sturdy. It's a good buy and I would recommend it in a heartbeat.

Solid tripod, although a little heavy

I bought this with Manfrotto 496RC2.This is my first pro level tripod. I can say it is top notch quality and very stable. There is no tiny shake when using with 6D & 70-200mm 2.8 IS II. However, I would be hesitant to bring it with me for traveling as it is a little on the heavy side.

Great Versatile Tripod

I did a lot of research before choosing this tripod. I wanted a light weight tripod that could be used for various types of work from marco shooting to landscape panoramas. Now that I have used it I have had no disappointments. It is super steady in almost any configuration and it is easy to setup and configure.

Great Tripod, Very Versatile and Sturdy

I bought this tripod because I almost dropped my camera and lens into a river with a tripod that released my camera too easily. This tripod has a locking latch to keep your camera where you intend for it to be. I also like the RC2 style plate that accepts a BlackRapid swivel strap connection.

Perfect tripod for non-pro togs.

I saw this tripod my friend had and I fell on love with it. I went and bought this combo. It is solid, well built, easily set and folded. The only downside is to get a carrying case that can fit it.

Good Tripod!

Tripod came within two weeks when I ordered it. Tripod is well built, stable and for the price! can't go wrong. The head takes a bit getting used to but other than that, its an amazing tripod, if your looking for your first tripod, this is the one.

Perfect for my work.

I am quite familiar with the build quality and durability of Manfrotto products, and this tripod/head combination was exactly what I needed for my current work as a university professor documenting scientific information (specimens, landscape location, and preparing laboratory training multimedia presentations). I am using this system with a Canon EOS 7d (various lenses) for stills and video, and I have no doubt that the legs and head will stand up to years of indoor (laboratory) and field use - exactly what I needed. Kudos also to Adorama, who has what must be the most extensive and impressive inventory I have yet to find online making one-stop shopping realistic (California does not have such a photography 'superstore'…). Packing was secure, shipping was fast, and personal contact service for advice was friendly and professional all the way. A wonderful experience – Thanks!

Excellent tripod

Bought this tripod along with Manfrotto head to mount a spotting scope for birdwatching. Everything I had wanted [stong, stable, not too heavy] and reasonably priced.

Nice and easy to use

I use this equipment for archaeological photography, including monument and materials pictures. The tripod is really good, folds small, easy to carry, even though is not lightweight, but I would need some more height at times. In all, is a very good buy.

Nice....BUT.... I'd expect more quality.

I loved the concept of this tripod and if it were not for part R190,518 and R190,506 being weak and failing for the 2nd time I'd be writing a glowing report. The parts are the knob and inner assembly that keep the verticle shaft tight and in place. For the money I would of expected this design flaw to of been fixed long ago. I talked to my local dealer and he actually keeps these parts on hand in quanity since he has such a call for them. Overall I think the concept is great, now, I'm looking to replace this and this tripod will become a last resort and hope that it works.http://www.manfrottospares.com/download/pdfs/190XPROB_20080926.pdfThe above link is for the parts list and diagram from Manfrotto.

I really like this tripod. I have found it to be easy to set up, saves time and no fumbling around when I am in a hurry. It is lightweight for traveling, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good, affordable tripod.

Decent Beginner Sticks

I have dragged these around the world and at some point I remember thinking that I should have spent the extra money to get carbon fiber. Also they aren't really strong enough for a long lens or a larger video camera but they are pretty good for the price. I haven't broken them and I have used and abused them extensively. I ended up buying a Sachtler Ace for video work and I still want a small carbon fiber set that folds up tiny for travel, looking at Gitzo for that. I mostly use these for time lapse or a second camera now. I was excited about the horizontal column feature but can't say I have actually used that in the field.

What I expected

I use this on periodically. It is not too heavy but I wouldn't want to hike with it on my back. Folds up small and easy to adjust the legs.

Manfrotto Quality

This is my second Manfrotto. I outgrew my earlier tripod. I needed a tripod combo that can take some abuse, hold a full frame camera with lens and fit in the overhead compartment on a trans-oceanic flight. My only complaint is unlike my other Manfrotto it did not come with its own carrying case.

Love Manfrotto

I really Love Manfrotto this product has made my life so much easier. The tripod is not as light as the carbon fiber tripods, but it is light enough compared to my old bogan tripod that weighed a ton and was not as easy to use. I can set this tripod up in no time and carry it with me when im doing a Wedding.

Great tripod for the bucks!

I used the tripod on a recent trip to Yellowstone with my Nikon D3100 kit, worked great. Set-up was fast and my shots turned out great. When purchased as a kit [tripod, ball head, and carry bag] the price alone made this a great deal.

Rock solid tripod

Carbon fiber may be lighter but this tripod is extremely solid and probably is all I will ever need unless I go pro. Versatile and very easy to use. A huge step up from the cheap tripods I have used for many years. I recommend buying an extra attachment plate as a spare. The pan head is great for general photography but probably not for video

Another Outstanding Manfrotto Product

I use this tripod with a Canon 7D. It is very stable even with a medium telephoto attached. I have no complaints about any Manfrotto product.

FEATURED REVIEWS

I would buy this product again and again

By Sheila

This Tripod is so easy to use that it's my go to first and I have several to choose from...It's great when using a large lens attached to the camera because it locks down when tightened...I have had to attach a lens to a tripod and then the camera to another but not with this one it's so sturdy. It's very smooth to pan with and just as easy to level...I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!!

Excellent Tripod

By TSGImages

This is now my primary tripod. It's much sturdier than any others I have used. The head locks secure and the quick release plate locks firmly (unlike some others). some might say it's a bit heavy, and that lighter is better, but when you have a couple thousand dollars sitting on top of it, outside on a windy day, it's not really all that heavy.

Newly redesigned, the 190XPROB makes the famous Manfrotto-patented horizontal center column feature even easier to use. Now, by extending the column to its highest vertical position, it can be swung around to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself, so switching between framing and positioning setups is more convenient than ever.

The ergonomics of the leg angle release mechanism and the quick action leg locks themselves have also been greatly improved.
