Review Summary

I purchased this product as a cost effective alternative to a studio stand. For my use, I have it mounted on a tripod. On the left side I mounted a Manfrotto ball head. On the right side I have my HPRC laptop platfrom. This allows me to shoot tethered with ease. I'm using it for product photography. It really does the job well. It will never be a Titan, but it costs 1/10th of a studio stand. I also can see the applications for mounting multiple flashes/strobes in one place.

I'm using this for four purposes: 1) To support a 5d MkII and a laptop for tethered shooting 2) For dual (still/video camera) shooting 3) As a horizontal extension for shooting vertically 4) To hold a DSLR, external monitor, and Zoom recorder for video Works well for all uses. Very heavy and rigid. Underscores the need for a VERY sturdy AND heavy tripod. No carbon fiber here. Even with my heaviest tripod, I still weight the center column with sandbags. When used for horizontal single-camera support, some weight on the non-camera end takes some of the stress off the center column. A little pricey, maybe. Until you consider you've got $3-8k of equipment hanging off it. Then it becomes a bargain. I got mine used from Adorama, and you can't tell it from a new one. No signs of wear. Even came in the original box, with all of the hardware (wrenches, mounting screws, etc.) Even had the plastic caps that protect the mounting screws.

This product is great,it makes your work much easier. When using your computer you can see much bigger lcd screen over the one on your camera.

The arm itself feels solid on the tripod. There is a little shake when punching the keys on your laptop. I used it outdoors for an event. Given the conditions, I could have a fast enough shutter speed that the images came out very sharp, anyway. The whole setup with the laptop tray and Camera Control Pro software had one other issue. I ended up hanging the camera off one end with my ball head to get a portrait mode composition. The ball head held like a champion, but you had better trust your equipment if you want to do the same. I still need to get vertical shooting worked out while attached to the accessory support. I haven't tried a long usb cord to roam with the camera. The whole setup looks impressive, but everyone knows it is the pictures that count. They came out great too.
