My only problem was in finding a compatable cable that uses a mini 2.5mm stereo plug for the remote end and has the Nikon D300 10 pin connector on the other end. I found some that could be used but required a 3.5mm to 2.5mm converter on the remote connection.
 The best find was here on Adorama and had the correct connectors on both ends. An added bonus was that it was a coiled cord and the remote connector was a right angle connector. The Adorama order was for a RocketFish Mobile "RPS Camera Cord for RPS 3 in 1 Remote with Nikon 10 Pin". The mfgs product ID # is RF-2T3A
  This cable I leave right on my tripod grip handle. It is readly available for hookup to the D300. By unplugging the cable from the remote the remote can be easily slid out of it's mounting bracket, re-connected to the cable and used as a free standing small wired remote. 
  It maintains the same functions as the "on camera" shutter release button. A half depression causes auto focus function and a continued full depression releases the shutter. This cable is availible for other make cameras.
   I am very pleased with this remote now that I have a great cable to utilize it.
   I would highly recommend this product.
