Although pricey for a dinky little piece of plastic, this is one of the most useful items in my bag. I use it every single time I go out to shoot landscapes. I mostly shoot landscapes, so this is on my hotshoe at all times, even when not using the camera. One of the biggest mistakes I see beginning landscape photographers make is uneven horizons. It is a sure mark of an amateur. For a relatively cheap item, you'll do your photography a world of good. Don't even ponder if this is necessary. It is. Carpenters wouldn't build a house without using a level, and neither should landscape shots be taken without this piece of gear!

A great little tool to ensure your horizons are level. It is a little pricey, but is well built and will hold up.

I had an awful time keeping horizon lines level, especially the very confusing ones with several converging lines etc. I'd heard about the bubble level & finally purchased one...not really thinking it could work...boy was I wrong. It's great & works like a champ....perfectly level horizons, both horizontal & vertical. The only drawback, is you need to move your eye from the viewfinder slightly to look up at the bubble level, but for me it's worth it. Love it!

This level is a great asset to the landscape/seascape photographer. I shoot sunrise's at the beach and the fun starts long before the sun reaches the horizon. This level is easy to read in dim light and makes keeping the horizon where it belongs very easy. The only draw back I have is that it doesn't fit my Minolta Maxuum 7, but its a great tool for my Nikon F100.

Leveling a crooked photo can be done with Photoshop easily with a horizon like you might have in a picture of the ocean. [@] is a bit more of a challenge for mountain scenery. Meadows and mountain ranges don't always lay flat across the horizon for a guide. This Hot Shoe Bubble Level should take the guesswork out of some of the shots.

I thik that with extreme wide angle lenses like fisheye, 10-20mm or so, it´s important to find a precise level to avoid distortion. This works fine for me. I would love a better price, but it worths.

I shoot landscape almost exclusively, always using a tripod to assist with composition and longer exposures. Over the years I often found myself going through the software routine of rotating photos by a degree or two and then cropping in order to line up the horizon (if there was one...). With the Bubble Level I can compose much faster and save a huge amount of time because I never need to rotate/crop anymore. I should have done this years ago.

This is a great idea, and it is generally well made. Fit to the hot shoe is perfect, and except for the sharp corners, the general design is good. However, for the $35 price tag, they could have been a bit more careful with the Quality Control. Checking the bubble against the camera's built-in grid with known-level architectural subjects, I found that the horizontal level was off by 3-5 degrees, meaning that I had to compensate each shot. I will try someone else's product next.

This level allows me to get the camera right on for landscape photography, without having to rely on the tripo's level.

Great aid in straightening lines (vertical or horizontal). Can be used with camera in either landscape or portrait orientation. Essential for landscapes, and straight horizons.

Will not go the field without it. Well worth the price! The only thing wrong is that it should have came with it's on clip on pouch so as to attach to carry bags, for this price. I used a mem stick pouch. It would have been cheap adertisment for the manufacturer or even Adorama. It's just a thought.

While the thought of paying so much for so little was a little sickening, the trouble and time saved is invaluable. I no longer strain my eyes through the view finder to determine whether the shot is lined perfectly, especially when many scenes involve long bending objects (rivers) running perpendicular to the shooting location. Even the tripod's level wasn't always up for the task. Now I can shoot quickly and with confidence that the photo won't be crooked even by a tiny degree. You can't put a price on that savings.

This item comes from a respected manufacturer in the photographic industry and as expected has performed well and is versatile - can be used in a vertical or horizontal position. The bubble reacts very smoothly to movements and the material used is very clear allowing the bubble-level to be viewed at a variety of camera angles. One feature that I would like to see in the future is related to design and that is for this piece to have rounded edges, which makes its appearance more dynamic (also resembling modern camera designs), softer to the touch and less susceptible to damage. A second feature I think would be useful (for those in not-so-common situations) is the ability to have the bubble-level lighted when need be so that precision camera movements can be made much quicker in low-light situations (now I'm getting critical). Overall, I would highly recommend this item.

I find it best used with a mini or tabletop tripod. It is great for capturing that shot level either vertically or horizontally.

A double axis spirit level that mounts effortlessly to the hot shoe of any standard 35mm SLR camera to help achieve a finer degree of accuracy in capturing image content. Ideal for QTVR shooting sessions.
