Excellent stand with inbuilt boom. Stable stand and with appropriate counter and base weights works perfectly as overhead lights. Works as a regular stand as well! Its 45” closed height makes it bit difficult to fit in light stand cases. If I get one with 38~40” closed height, will replace most of my stands. Overall love this stand.

A lightweight boom stand. Threads will strip under stress. I had to drill a whole in light attachment stud to keep it from moving.

A little misled by the website and all it’s pictures of the product. This does not come with the sandbag unless you check the box and fine print and are willing to pay $30 extra for it. Water bottles will work just fine and cost 0.Overall I like the stand a lot, probably my favorite stand. Many options and positions to mount just about anything you want. Good quality.

This is my first stand and strobe, so my experience is limited. As my first stand, I’m very happy with the flexibility and quality.

The rods are good and strong, but you've really go to crank the handle to get it tight. Make sure you have sandbags.

I bought this as a recommended model from a video on Three Point Lighting. I use this unit with a Lowel Snoot Light for a hair light and the unit is easy to collapse down. The boom arm itself does not get very compact and that is my only issue with it.

I have 4 of them. That says it. You can use it as normal stand, or give it a flip and convert it to a boom.

I own two of these and will be purchasing a third. They serve as my general use light stands for off camera flash. Usually have Nikon SB-700's attached via an adapter and used with either Lastolite umbrella's or the Photek Soflighters. Whether using as a regular light stand or as a boom they operate perfectly. They are very easy to switch from a standard vertical stand into a horizontal boom arm and all you need is some weight to counterbalance your chosen load. Manfrotto makes a great bag for this that allows you to add your own weight and comes with a built in hook to connect to the nicely provided hole in the boom arm. Highly recommend this gear.

This boom works pretty good with my 20" diY combo with my sb900. it takes a little getting used to, over all I'm happy with the purchase. Must use counter weight. I needed a least 15lbs for my combo.

I use this primarily to position a hair light for portraits. But, it can serve as an ordinary light stand if needed. Its real versatility comes from its top section that easily converts to a sturdy boom. I use a small canvas bag containing anywhere from 2-1/2 to 15 pounds of bar-bell weights as a counterweight. The lower end of the boom has a convenient hole where you can use an S-hook to hold a counterweight bag. This top quality convertable boom stand lives up to the high quality I have come to expect from Bogen/Manfroto. The only negative (which is not really a negative for me) is it is quite tall when folded. If you use it as a regular light stand, it would be too tall for some specialized uses, like a background light holder, but it is not designed for that anyway.
