Useless, thought I was buying a quick release mechanism.

Holds tight either with camera (Canon EOS 70D ) and telephoto lens ( EF 70-300mm ) or spotting scope ( Vortex Razor 20 - 60 x 85mm ) setup for digiscoping with cellphone. Slight adjustability (front to back) but fine for what I'm using anything bigger and would have to go to a bigger head. Wish I had this mounting plate on my trip to Yellowstone National Park would have made things easier trying to take pictures of Wolves, Bison, or this years Osprey chicks with one that had not fledged yet.

I got the Manfrotto 468MGRC5 Hydrostatic Ball Head with RC5, which uses this plate. I wanted a second plate for my second camera. I like this plate and ball head system - I have a heavy Nikon 16-35mm lens on a D610 and this thing locks down great. My only complaint is that the plate does NOT come with the retractable alignment pin like the plate that came with my RC5 on the ball head. Instead there are 2 plastic pins that you can put in the alignment hole. I'm afraid those pins will break. My second camera is a Nikon D3200 which doesn't have the alignment hole anyway so it'll work for me not to have the pin but I still wish the retractable metal pin was there so the two plates were identical. The picture on Adorama with the brass looking pin is like the first one I got. The other pictures without the brass pin are like this replacement part.

When you start having multiple cameras (with rigs) in your kit but only two main tripods, it behooves you to think about efficiency and a couple extra mounting plates are invaluable when you've got to hustle. Even notice you never have a quarter in your pocket to unscrew campera plates when you're in a hurry...? Better to just leave on, I say.

I don't like to switch plates. My camera is always reading to mount. What more needs to be said. I upgraded from the RC-2 system and never really felt comfortable with my pro body and big lens sitting on it. Much more stable with this beast of a plate.

Had an awesome tripod, didn't have the plate, so it was great to find the replacement part.

This is good for small camcorders and SLRs (although, I'd rather use a good ballhead for an SLR). But there is not enough range of motion for-aft to properly balance larger camcorders like HVX200s
