Every once in a while you run across something that functions so well that it makes a lasting impression. These little guys (as well as all the other 48x series) work very well, and have just enough mass to give that 'substantial' feel.

I added this to my monopod and it greatly increased its versatility. I can now use my monopod for nature shots where a tripod isn't practical and get the shot I'm looking for.

I use this head on my 695cx monopod. It will support my Pentax K20d and grip with a DA* 50-135 zoom lens mounted. If I add a hot-shoe flash, I have to be a bit more careful about how I handle the setup. I can't carry it around horizontally by the monopod grip with the flash on, or it will move around. It never feels in danger of falling off or breaking, but it will be out of position when I set it up again. It really isn't a problem since I rarely walk around with my gear in that position anyway. I wouldn't want this to be my main tripod head, but it works very well on a monopod.

I only wish it had come with a quick release, other than that, a great ballhead.

Designed for use with compact, 35mm and small digital cameras. The strong die-cast construction, precision-machined aluminum housing and extremely hard phenolic resin ball provide excellent smooth movements across all tilt positions. A single ratchet control lever securely locks both the +90° -90° ball and the 360° pan movements. Camera attachment is via a 2" platform with 1/4-20" male thread. Head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female.
