Shopper : Will this mount on a monopod?GARY L : Of course it will mount on any 3/8" thread but it would be a rather pointless thing to do. Why put a video fluid head on a monopod? The only head that makes any sense at all on a monopod is a simple tilt head, and then only if you are shooting an air show or something else with extreme vertical angles.PETER S : Yes, it will mount on a monopod. I purchased it specifically to mount on my Manfrotto 562-B Monopod which comes with a quick release plate. Simply screw the release plate that comes with this monopod to the underside of the 501 head and you are able to "Quick Release" the 501 head from the monopod if desired. If you have a monopod without a quick release plate, the monopod should attach directly to the 501 Head, or again, you could by another quick release plate with base for easy removal. PeterGUY H : Yes, it will mount on a monopod head. But the whole point behind the 501hdv is "fluid motion". That is lost because the rotation will be around the monopod foot instead of the axis of the 501HDV. In addition, the 501HDV is a large, heavy head. There are many other lighter, smaller, less expensive heads more suitable for a monopod. The 501HDV is a terrific head when used for what it is designed for. A monopod is not a good use.ALEJANDRO L : I don't own a monopod, but my guess is that you can. Only problem I see is that the head is really heavy and I would be worry about how stable this all setup would be in the end. I wouldn't recommend it though.
Shopper : Anyone know if this is mountable on a Bogen 3051 stand? It's an old stand so I'm not sure how this mounts vs. newer models.LAWRENCE P : If your tripod has a 3/8th's screw mount on top then this head will fit.CRAIG N : The head has a flat base with a threaded stud which I think is 5/8. I bought it to mount on a Kessler slider, not thinking that i might want to use it on a set of stix. I think it's cheaper to buy the head and stix together.RANDY F : I mounted mine on an older 3051 aluminum stand with no problems. Perfect fit.KEVIN B : If the older stand has a 3/8" mountain three, then yes it will. So, the head will mount on any tripod, still or motion that has a 3/8 in thread at the top
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?TERRY T : Excellent Value ... bang for the buck and it uses many of the same Manfritto parts and can be mounted on several leg sets.

Nice. Light. Smooth.

Light weight, smooth head, generally good. The device that holds the legs together will break off eventually. It's pretty flimsy. Still, that's no big deal.

Easy to swap cameras

I bought this head to use with a GlideTrack system mounted on top of my existing Bogen tripod and fluid head. This head uses the same quick release plate so swapping my cameras from one to the other is fast, easy and very secure. This head has a flat base that screws on to the tripod instead of the ball-type base of my other Bogen head. It mounted perfectly to the GlideTrack slider plate. Highly recommend this product no matter what legs or system you're using. -a-

The 501HDV includes a powerful new feature inspired by our top professional video head models a fixed counterbalance spring (set for a typical weight of camera + accessories of 5.5 lbs.) that helps ensure both smoother tilt movements and greater equipment safety even when tilt locks are inadvertently left off.

The easy-to-reach on/off switch allows the counterbalance system to be disengaged or re-engaged for different filming setups. From the outside, the first thing that you'll notice about the new 501HDV video head is its updated design completely retuned for much improved ergonomics with locks and knobs that allow a more solid gripand better fingertip control.

The 501HDV inherits its separate pan and tilt locks, gradual tilt friction adjustment system, flat base (with standard 3/8" thread), quick release camera plate and repositionable pan bar from its successful predecessor.

What's in the box:

  • Quick-Release Camera Plate Supplied with 3/8" and 1/4" camera screws
  • 1-Pan Handle #501HLV
