Questions & Answers

ILYA B : I got the monopod in the mail, but do not see the actual screws to mount my camera on the monopod head. Should it be located somewhere else in the box or on the monopod itself?MICHAEL O : There should be a baseplate the attached / with the Fluid Head. Release that from the Fluid Head and attach it to the base of your camera.GREGORY F : You should have received a quick plate with this setup. It's a rectangular piece of metal with a screw in it. If you have the plate, but not screw, definitely check around the box. It's a standard 1/4 20 screw. If the quick plate isn't there, I'd definitely contact someone. :) You attach the camera to the quick plate, and then the quick plate to the monopod! Good luck!ELAINE W : You mount your camera on a base that inserts on the top of the monopod. The screw (and it's a big one) can easily slide out of this base (base is the size of your palm) if the stopper is not plugged in (been there done that). Always have a dime handy to tighten the screw into your camera. Enjoy your mono as several photographers have purchased this based upon my recommendationROBERT M : There should have been two screws under the mounting plateSZABOLCS V : The mounting plate should be sitting in the tripod head. You can easily remove it by the lever. The mounting screws are visible at the back.DANIEL M : If it is not at the bottom of the plate you should be entitled to a replacement.FRANK G : Well, I've bought two (about a year apart) and both were ready to use straight out of the box.ILYA B : Thanks guys. The screws did not come as part of the plate - after digging around, I found the plastic bag with the screws buried in the box.JOHN G. T : Did it come with the mounting plate? If yes, there should be screws on the mounting plate.LOREN Y : The screws are already part of the monopod head (there's a slider plate and it ships with two screws for different sizes).
Shopper : Can this be used on my Nikon D90 DSLR Camera or is this just for video recording devices?JOHN C : Absolutely. I use it with my Canon 5D... If you're just using it for stills, it might be a little too heavy. If you're using it for stills and DSLR video, I think you'll be happy with it. Hope this helps !GREGORY F : Yes. I regularly use my DSLRs to film and this monopod is a gift from heaven.KEN S : Hi, This would be perfect for your HDSLR! It is well worth the money!LYNDON R : Yes you can. You can use it for any dslr or video camera. Dont let the description fool you. The term video head is referring to the type of head is attached. Essentially you can install any tripod head on this monopod. This monopod is really heavy though. ROBERT C T : Hi. We use this solely with our DSLR and it works great. Many of the DSLR videos you see today are shot using this monopod. Highly recommended.AARON R : Yep - I use it for my Canon 5Dm2 for both video and still photography. I'm sure your D90 is similar in size. Very well built. I highly recommend it. Note: I've heard some people have issues with the bottom joint sticking a bit, but Manfrotto is quick to replace them. Cheers!SPIDER A : It will work on anything. The plate that slides into it is made for a camcorder, but it will fit on a DSLR. The three legs work really well, although you do NOT want to leave it by itself. They just help with stabilization... hope this helped.TINA T : The mounting bracket is the basic slide mount bracket used on many video tripods. I have used it in the field with my Nikon DSLR. BUT....it is not designed for DSLR use. This monopod is designed for smaller videocameras- narrow width and longer from the back to lens orientation. DSLRs are the opposite orientation. There are some challenges - more difficult on/off mounting compared to a video camera. It is a good monopod for getting some added stability - video or DSLR/still camera.ALLAN G : Yes, this can be used with your Nikon D90 DSLR or any DSLR with a Standard Tripod hole on the bottom of the calendar.WAYNE F : This can be used for DLSR's as well.....I actually purchased it for use with my Canon 7D and a 150-500mm lense and have been very happy with it's stability and build.JOSHUA H : This can be used on any device. I used this with my Canon DSLR. Its a great monopod.
Shopper : Minimum (closed) length is listed as just over 30". The head appears to add about 4" to the overall length; can the head be removed temporarily so that I could pack the system for travel in a large duffel bag or suitcase?TINA T : The head is completely removable.Nelson M : So what? Does it unscrew or not?IAN U : Yes, the head can be unscrewed, it separates at the silver section below the head. The head is a typical small Manfrotto, similar to the 701HDV, so it is compatible with other standard 3/8" screw supports like sliders and tripods.LUKE P : yupTHE L : no you cannot remove the headNOAH G : Yes, the head just unscrews from the base.JACOB S : Yes, the head can be unscrewed from the monopod itself. Hope that helps!STEVE J : Yep, the head just screws off.ROBERT C T : Hi A Shopper, This is a wonderful monopod that can easily be shortened for travel. With a simple twist of the head about two full turns, the 26.5" pod portion can quickly be removed from the head without any tools. Makes it much easier to pack in a carry-on bag. Good Luck, BobTHOMAS A : The head is fixed to the lower body, and can not be removed.

Great for DSLR Wedding Shoots!

I used this with my Canon 5D this weekend at a wedding shoot and it was great to use, since the camera is heavy to me, so it was great to be able to have the stability provided by this monopod while also not having the bulk of a normal tripod. The ball joint at the bottom does get a little stuck but I haven't tried putting WD40 on it. I also tried using it as a poor man's steadicam, to get moving shots around the dance floor, it seemed like it worked better than using just handheld.

Worth every Penny!

I'm new to the world of videography. I'm slowly but surely making all my purchases for my videography business. I have done TONS and TONS of research on all kind of products including this monopod. Right out of the box this monopod is incredibly easy to operate and easy to adjust. You can adjust the bottom swivel to make it tighter or looser. I made mine tighter so it cold hold stagnant shots. The fluid head is literally so fluid and easy to adjust. You can get some really cool shots using the fluid head. In my opinion the manfrotto monopod is worth every penny. The build quality is phenomenal.

My first monopod and it's fantastic. Build quality is great. Ease of use awesome. Fast, fluid and intuitive. If there was just one thing I could say 'slightly' negative about it, is that when pushing it's limits of use for video, trying to make it act as a jib by creating a vertical movement arching from the ground up, perhaps revealing a bride walking past, starting with a low angle then moving up as a jib could, you can only get to about 30cm (1 foot) above the ground as the start position as the head won't allow absolute horizontal to be attained at lower than this. That is a VERY picky point and won't trouble anyone much, but other than this my monopod is my new best friend. Love it. Also comes with a standard plate for use in my tripod system (VIDEO head). No fumbling around screwing plates on or off.

Great Design But Not a Tripod

This is not a tripod and will never deliver the same stability. I am a videographer and needed to do quick setups for run and gun music videos. This is a great solution, but it requires a new way of shooting. You do pans by twisting the monopod on its base or tilting it, not panning the head. This is not a stable base like a tripod but a way to remove shakes and do quick setups and pans. much better than a tripod that is too hard to move between setups or even a shoulder rig that does not provide smooth movement in video shots. graet product but the leg extension and camera plate are sticky; other people say you have to grease the leg gimbal. Minor things. learn a new way of shooting and you will be rewarded.

It's THE monopod

Just watch the tutorial on monopods from Still Motion and you'll see all of the wonderful things this puppy can do for you as a DSLR video user. It is a touch heavy, but that's what helps make it so stable for those toasts. The fluid head makes it versatile though, and you can get some really nice moves out of it.

Must-Have product

Got rid of all my hand-held DSLR rigs after purchasing this monopod. Perfect to simulate hand-held look without the back strain, and also perfect to achieve near-tripod steadiness.

Excellent way to stabilize

Really excellent product. I have used it with a Nikon D7000 for video with a 70-200 VR II and it's possible to get very fluid pans with this setup. Also have used it with D3s and Nikon 200-400 f/4 for various sideline sports situations and it's just about perfect. I thought it was a bit pricey until I got it and started using it and now I would say that it's worth very penny. Don't compromise, buy it now.
