Questions & Answers

CHRISTO VAN R : I recently bought this (678) for a new Manfrotto 685B. It was not meant to fit, but has been done - see reviews. But how do I get the silver metal plug out from the bottom of the 685B monopod?BRIAN G : I have a 679B monopod. The rubber tip with metal sleeve had set screws to hold it in place. So, it was an easy task to fit the 678 base to it. I would question whether the 3 legs of the 678 will fit in the tube of your 685B monopod. If there are no set screws, then the silver piece is press fit into the tube. After removing the plastic clasp and foot at the bottom, you could try heating the tube causing it to expand. You might be able pull the silver part out. Sorry, I couldn't be more help. The 678 base is a great addition to Manfrotto monopods. I use it all the time.
Shopper : Will this work on the base of the 679B?JOHN A : I have the older version so I don;t really know. I have looked at the 679b and the base unit screws from a socket, it does not look to me as a good fit as the three legged base screws into the tripod shaft not a screw in the center. I cantell you that the base you are looking at is a great add-on but makes the monopod very heavy to carry. Ask your Adorama rep about a light weight tripod.
Shopper : how do you get the rubber base off the manfrotto monopod lowest leg to attach the manfrotto universal base?HANK S : It is difficult to get off, but it just pulls off. Shimmying it back a forth a bit each side at a time worked for me.CHRISTOPHER K : You need only pull off the rubber cup from the bottom leg. If difficult, heat it with hot water to make the rubber more pliable. The base, when mounted on the monopod leg, can be stored by being folded into the leg. So if the rubber cup will not come off with hot water etc, then you can cut it off as you will most likely not need again. Finally, should you want to replace the cup later, you can by similar cups made for walking canes at regular hardware stores.GARY B : If I remember correctly I just kind of slowly worked it of by twisting it. I may have also used a screwdriver to help from the top. I purchased it so long ago I don't really remember. What I do know is that you have to be extremely careful not to over tighten it as it will damage the bottom of the monopod bending it out of shape making it difficult to pull the legs out. If I had to do it over again I would spend the extra coin on one of the newer shorter thicker leg models.

The 678 folding base is a perfect addition to Manfrotto Monopods

Terrific stabilizer to Manfrotto monopods. I also like the way the feet wrap up and stores inside the monopod tube.

Too flimsy to serve as stabilizer

It is cleverly designed, but too flimsy to provide stability to a Manfrotto monopod.

hidden tripod

it does make the monopod a bit heavy but when you need a tripod without the bother of a tripod, this is the way ro go! The legs are screwed safely into the monopod until you need them. I have found it very useful in low light and congested areas. a buy worth the extra weight.

Very stable

It is very stable and holds the monopod pretty still. Having to keep the legs inside the monopod until you are ready to unscrew them and take them out is not super convenient but not particularly hard to do quickly either. Also, I will point out what at least one other person said: In assembling this there is a metal sleeve. If you are assembling this to the 679 model (mine) take the sleeve out first or you will never tighten down on the monopod itself. I am guessing the sleeve may be needed on other models but not the 679.

Great base

I use this base on Manfrotto 685B monopod. This base DOES NOT fit my monopod 685B so I have to do customization for it to fit. This 2 things are NOT meant to be together so DON'T buy them. But I purchased some tools at local hardware store and put them together and LOVE IT!

Works Great!

Saw a review where this may end up loose. I did not find that at all. It fit snug and I tightened up the 3 set screws. LOVE IT! I just wanted to be able to add some stabilization to my 680B when necessary. I do not expect to leave my camera alone on it, but I wanted to not have to find a place to stabilize any sway (you know - the back and forth and you have to put your hand against a door frame, tree, the pickup truck...) that may not be available! This is perfect. Tucks away when I do not need it and I found it easy enough to "untuck" when I do need it!

Watch out your fingers when you use it.

I bought this base for my 680B monopods. The instruction states removing the ring first in order to attach the base to the 680B monopods without the ring. I of course follow the instruction, but I should not have attached the monopod without the ring. Basically, do not follow the instruction. I have reviewed many people feedback online and I found out many people complaint that they cannot attach the base to the monopod tightly. I found out a solution online that attach the ring to the monopod first. The size of the ring is same as the size of the bottom monopod that make not easy to put the ring attaching to the monopod. It means that will secure the ring to the monopod very tight (it is good.) Putting the base into the monopod and getting the base from the monopod are not difficult, but openning the base by one hand is very difficult. Normally, one hand holds the monopod and the other hand unscrews the base. After you take the base from the monopod, you only have one hand to open it. I have trained myself opening and closing the base many times to get efficency. The weight is not much lighter than a tripod after you attach the base to the monopod, but it is thinner than a tripod. Overall, it is a good product.
