Questions & Answers

Jim L : I am considering this head for video pans with my DSLR. I curently have a Dolica AX680P104 68-Inch Proline Tripod and Pan Head. I am not happy with how hard it is to pan video and stay steady. My Questions are Will this head fit on my tripod and will it be considerably easier to create better panning shots?JOHN P : Yes, this would definitely be better for smooth horizontal panning than what you have. But you should weigh your camera/lens. You might need the model MVH500AH which holds up to 11 lbs. I use the 701 for travelling with my Lumix GH2 which is lighter than a DSLR. Also your tripod is not a video tripod and will not be stable enough for smooth video panning. Ideally you would want a sturdier one perhaps with a spreader and double legs.Wells G : Greetings -- not familiar with your Dolica. If you have a 1/4-20 or 3/8 inch to attach the 701 - should fit. Regarding panning -- I have found that using a string to pull the pan handle is smoother than trying by hand. Less shaking, less jerking -- so long as pan function knob is very loose. Hope that helps.LINDA S : I like the head . It's worked fine with my canon DSLR.
Shopper : ? Can I attach this head for (get ready) an old Bogen 3040 for medium format film cameras and view cameras up to 8x10 (very sturdy) the head on now is 3 way head by Bogen understand now the system goes by the name of Manfrotto, but still Italian made just over 30 years old that's right...RAYMOND C : It has a 1/4x20 on the bottom.RONALD M : I have the Manfrotto version, and it does support my DSLR and lens that weighs in at about 8.5 pounds. You will have a good time with this mount. Sorry it took so long to get back to you......working two jobs.ANDREW R : Yes, this head should work with the 3040.
Shopper : Does this include the quick release plate?PAUL M : YesJAMES F : Yes. I think you'll like this one; I also have a model 501 which was super for my Sony PD170 but dwarfed the Canon XA10. Also (more unsolicited info) be sure your tripod with this has enough torsional stability. My really lightweight carbon fibre model doesn't, really; should've taken an aluminum one instead, on travels. A little bulkier & heavier but less wiggle when I look at the final HD product.NICHOLAS C : YesVADIM B : Yes, the plate was included.NATHAN P : Yes is does. Great head for a DSLR or small Camcorder. We have 3 of them :)PAGE C : Yes. Mine came with one plate. The plates can also be ordered separately as replacements or extras for additional camera bodies.DAVID S : Yes, it comes complete as the photo shows. This includes the head and camcorder mounted quick release plate along with 2 different size mounting screws to handle the mounting profile of the camcorder used.Christopher G : Yes. PAUL F : I own 3 of these, and yes, they ship with a Quick Release plate. :)CHRISTIAN H : Yes it does, I use the head on my Canon 7d DSLR and it has been a solid cost effect fluid head ".

NIce video head

I knew I was pushing it regarding weight. Be aware that it can take a full body DSLR as the 1DX with a fairly heavy lens as the 70-200mm but you need to be careful. It tips very easy. The panning is kinda jerky until you get used to it. Can this be used in a professional environment? Yes and no. If you want a stellar performance, a few more hundred dollars should do the trick.

excellent product

I use this head on a slider and it far surpasses my expectations. It is able to cope with a heavy camera with no issues.

Meet the expectation

This head is used for the SONY FX7 camcorder. It's a perfect match. During our last weekend wedding project, our video person responded that she really loved this head. Pan is very smooth.

This is a great low budget fluid head for video

This is a great low budget fluid head for video. The only issue I've had so far is lack of control. There is basically no drag control and the head moves very easily when it is unlocked. You can kind of get drag by partially turning the lock, but it doesn't work as good as an actual drag control knob. This can make it harder than it should be to get controlled motion tracking.

Great Head for the Money

This is my first fluid head. I use it mainly for shooting video with my Nikon D5100 of kiteboarders. The quality of my latest video has greatly improved. So far I am very pleased with the performance of the head. I did a lot of research and this head stands up to all my expectations. I use it on my Slik Pro 700 legs and its a very good union.

Tilting and panning couldn't be smoother

I have started to learn dslr video and Manfrotto 701HDV is all I could ask for a real smooth panning and tilting , I had tried to some video without this before and comparing this with it earlier just shows how right technology could enhance your work. I like everything about it, the only downside I am seeing personally is the quick clamp attached to camera sometimes gets a little loose

It works as promised.

This mount works fine for video. I was disappointed in the plastic release pin. I have another Manfrotto mount with a metal pin and it works much better. The plastic is "sticky" and adds a layer of effort when mounting and removing my camera. I would probably recommend paying a little more for a better built video head.

SMOOTH

I actually wanted the 501, but they didnt have it, so I went with this...I must say, I have no complaints, other than I still wonder about the 501 lol...it gives some extremely smooth panning action which is great for my video work and I use it on a KONOVA slider, so thats smooth on smooth...u can see a sample of my video work here http://youtu.be/Lof1lT_Q1BM

Great for all uses

Mostly used in back country photography and spotting scope work. With the quick release I can switch from using my spotting scope, to locate animals, and then change to my cameras for the photo or video.

great solid quick release

I have several of these, for use on different devices. I have one on my Cannon dslr, one on my Cannon video camera, one on my Swarovski EL binoculars, and one on my Pentax spotting scope. Makes switching devices on my tripod easy and quick.

Worth every penny

Sometimes I do photography and video at the same job so I need it a small fluid head since the video I am doing is with the same SLR 5D M II. this head attaches to my non manfrotto tripod legs really well so allow me to do video specially if am at event. for the size and price this is the best fluid head ever!

Great fluid head for the price

For the price, this is a fantastic starter fluid head. If you compare it to heads that cost more than $1k, you may find this one a little lacking, but if you're looking for a great introduction to fluid heads at low cost, this is the one. I use with a 5D Mark II, and have been quite happy with it. The movement is smooth, the quick-release plate easy to use, and despite its low cost, it feels very solid. No regrets whatsoever on getting it. At some point I may have the dough to drop on an ungodly expensive head, but for now, this does what I need

Love to shoot

If I would have known that the adjustments was not controlled by the arm I would not have gotten it. SAD. But it works for all wide shots well. I have a 5d mk2 and a 70-200 and you will not want to go bigger on the lens than that with this head. It is very good but limited....The slide tenchen nob hits the body of the camera LAME.

great head if that's what you need

I bought this head for my 5D Mark II for video use. I have a tripod and monopod and one ball head. I bought this one but the plate is much bigger from the other forcing me to change plate anytime I want to switch from still to video. Therefore for my need this is not the best solution. The head is; however, very well built and the movement is smooth. I would keep it if I used only for video.
