Questions & Answers

Shopper : what is the difference between Q5 quick release and RC4?CARSON W : The RC4 has a lever mechanism to hold the camera plate, while on the Q5, the plate slides in and is held in with a screw and plate mechanism. I find the sliding plate gives more control and holds more securely but it's really a matter of reference.ALDEN N : This is my question also before purchasing about ball head and what quick release to choose? I purchase the 055 ball head with Q5 quick release and I never had any problem, Q5 quick release for me I feel safer every time i put my gear and I lock it my self rather than just snug it and it lock it for you I read some of other comments about RC4 that somehow it stop to lock and fell.I have a expensive lens and camera to put in this ballhead or quick release and I dont want them to just fell .RC4 is "Convenient" easy and fast to work click and snap in and out but I don't like that everything must be felt that it safe.BASHAR A : I believe the RC4 is a fixed plate once attached to the head. The Q5 has an extra knob on the side to tighten the plate, otherwise the plate will slide horizontally. I also believe the Q5 Plate is much wider than the RC4 (this is what allows it to slide horizontally)ANDREW R : The Q5 and the RC4 fit different style QR clamps and are very different in appearance.
Myo Min T : Is it usable with 190XProB tripod?THOMAS M : Yes.THOMAS M : Yes.LANCE M : Not sure, I purchased mine to go with matching Manfrotton Carbon Fiber Tripod.STEFAN G : yes, I actually think it fits better on the aluminum tripod, than the CF. i tried it at a local store with aluminum tripod and I loved it. Later on I decided to get the CF, but although I like how light CF is, it kind of look disbalanced with this head, which stays heavier. You won't get wrong either way, but I would think now I should save some money and get the aluminum version.CARSON W : It will work, but is a bit of over kill for a tripod only rated to support 11 lbs. actually this head weighs over 2 lbs which would only leave about 9 lbs for your gear.

good ball head

I have only used this ball head once and am still trying to learn the controls on it, but when I do it right, the camera stays put and works well.

It's very sturdy and to me it's an investment for future cameras and even video cameras. It has a large base as it's release head in comparison to the 498RC2. It's very sturdy even when holding a D700 along with a 70-200mm VRII at every angle including a Nikon flash (eg: SB-600). Where stillness is a must along with maintaining a certain level for long exposures especially landscapes in low light.

Great Ball Head

Received this ball head a couple of days ago and on first glance almost sent it back. However I got a chance to use it tonight and I love it. The friction is easily controlled and the motion is extremely smooth. Once locked in place it stays put. Moves into portrait mode with the same ease. I am extremely happy with this product.
