NINA J : Can this tripod securely hold a plein air artists pochade box that is 14"x11" and weighs 4 pounds?STERLING F : Ibwould expect it can. I use it to hold my Nikon D7500 with a 800mm Zoom lense. Together they weigh more than 8lbs. You will probably want to add a small sandbag to the bottom to keep the center of gravity low.

Good basic tripod for tall people on a budget

Overall its a good tripod. The general build quality is not as good as some more expensive tripods with nearly identical specs. I had a vanguard that was nearly identical where everything felt very smooth and a bit more solid, but it was about $50 more. That extra money is worth it if you need that extra solid build. The manfrotto will work great for me as I am tall and need a tall tripod that folds up fairly small and the build quality should be good enough to last me a long time as I am not using a tripod that often or under difficult shots. I got this for around $90, and it was well worth it. 4 folding leg segments are a big deal if you want to collapse the tripod small. No 3 leg adjustment tripods can go that high and fold that small. Its the modern design that every single maker is using now, and its clear its a budget tripod, but if you have lite duty work, want one that goes up high and folds down low, and is not expensive, this should be a good deal. I am tall enough where I need it to extend to 66 inches, and most of them don't. It folds to under 17 inches.

Giddy over the Manfrotto Tripod

I LOVE my new Manfrotto Element Big Blue Tripod. It is absolutely everything I thought it would be. Not too heavy, but heavy enough to carry with me into windy areas that I take photos. Very easy to open and close. Very easy to raise up or down. Perfect for me, or anyone else that needs an easy to travel Tripod. The carrying case is great too, but I do wish the strap for it was easy for carrying over the shoulder or strapping to a backpack.

Sturdy for art box

This is an affordable, sturdy tripod for my plein air pochade box. I ordered the aluminum model with blue accents and it looks great too.

Good Overall Tripod

Good for lightweight camera & lens combos. A little unstable with the Nikon 200-500 and camera combo with any wind. Good 'luggability' and great feature in the mono pod.

Not a bad little tripod

Not a bad little tripod. I would be a little concerned to put a big telephoto lens on it, but it Is a nice little travel tripod. Seems made well, ballhead seems nice too. Comes with a nice padded bag as well.

A great 'Traveler' Tripod!

It is excellent at what it is...a 'Traveler' Tripod. It is reasonably light weight and can be made very compact...exactly what a 'Traveler' Tripod should be. In spite of being light in weight, it is quite stable...not as much so as a heavy tripod, but sufficiently so. I would simply recommend using a shutter release when using a heavy telephoto lens or taking a shot with an extended shutter open setting to prevent any movement of the camera. I am very pleased since it is exactly what I anticipated...maybe a little better even.

A Work of Art

I admit that Manfrotto's reputation among professional photographers greatly influenced my decision to purchase my first Manfrotto tripod. I was a little surprised as to the weight of this tripod...it was was much heavier than some of the cheaper ones I have used in the past. But that is more representative of the quality construction, and I can already tell this tripod will last a long, long time. I love the ease in which the camera can be mounted and removed, and love the smooth gliding nature of the tripod legs. I definitely recommend this tripod. It is very reasonably priced and incredibly rugged. Can't wait to take my first trip with this tripod!

light weight, great for travel

I like that it is light weight, fairly adjustable. I would not put 17 lbs on this tripod though, as it is rated. For travel it is great, folds down small for packs and suitcase, but accordingly is limited related to positioning, it has stops with no way to lock in between stops. For more permanent, consistent use, get something stronger and more versatile.

Lower part of mono pod leg fell off

The leg on the mono pod fell off. Found that the two nylon pieces that hold the leg fell out and were loose inside the leg. We were about to return when we figured out how to repair ourselves. Like the tripod but not sure about quality going forward. We will have to see what happens.

Well thought-out design, quality build

Very pleased with the tripod. It allows me to consolidate my previous tripod and monopod and this comes in a much smaller form factor. It feels precision engineered and the weight isn't terrible.

Great for Travel

Very please. Good quality and very good support for a travel tri-pod. Used with a D850 with a 70-200mm and no issues. A little challenging when rotated to portrait mode, but standard landscape mode is solid. Collapses very good as well. Much smaller footprint than my last tri-pod.

Good travel tripod!

The tripod is very good quality and the head is as well. The fact that it reconfigures into a monopod means I can take it to the racetrack and get good still photos of the cars and crowd using the tripod while still being able to get fast sweeping shots of cars at top speed using the monopod. It would be 5 star if it was a little lighter, but it is rugged and will hold up well.

Nice lightweight travel tripod.

Really like the Manfrotto Traveler Big 5. Very well made. The quick release plate is handy to leave on-camera. Tripod is light enough to carry on backpack but sturdy enough for heavy telephoto and camera, and converts to monopod. Awesome! Thank you Adorama, great product!

It’s an OK tripod compared to the 190 series from Manfrotto and above

I received this tripod as a free gift with the purchase of the Nikon 200-500 lens. It’s an OK tripod compared to the 190 series from Manfrotto and above. For light weight cameras with a light weight lens it should be OK. For this lens I would not use it, but instead my Manfrotto 502.

Very Satisfied

Bought this for family photos. Basis for my selection was quality, reasonable price and max height. Overall very pleased with purchase. I use it with Canon G7X and iphone. Seems very well made. Max height is more than many other tripods. Very easy to adjust camera on the tripod. Locking mechanism seems secure. I doubt I will take it on long walks due to weight. It folds up fairly small, but for me weight and size would be barrier.

The only reason I gave it a four and not five stars is that I haven't traveled with it yet. Tried it out here at home and it seems to fit my needs.

Unstable plate and head

I've been using this tripod for a few months now. I shoot a lot of macro, so need a tripod. While this thing feels well built, heavy, sturdy, somewhat ,as far as the legs, the plate does not screw tightly to my sony mirrorless camera. No matter how much I tighten the screw, it is never tight enough to support the weight of my lightweight, mirrorless camera and a fairly lightweight lens. Especially in the vertical position -- not a chance. It constantly slides down. Clearly, this makes the whole rig feel unreliable. Also, there is a screw protruding at the base of the plate and that makes a smooth attachment impossible. You have to work around it, and that requires opening the sides so much that it makes it a bit iffy while attaching your camera. You get what you pay for for a tripod and these issues make this one feel too unreliable for my expensive camera and lens.

More than expected

This is my first good quality tripod and as a hobbyist it's just perfect. For the price, I expected an average quality tripod, but to my surprise, it turned out to be better. As I grow in my photography skills, I'll keep an eye on Manfrotto tripods in case I need an additional one.

Great Little Tripod

By JOHN P.

I Bought it to bring on landscape shots. My full sized Manfrotto has been a work horse but too bulky and heavy to take into the field any distances or for all day, so I would tend to go without. I had been researching carbon fiber but had noted the small ones had issues with vibration. I decided on the small aluminum. It was a good choice. When I got it I was shocked just how small it was. Very light weight and compact. It kind of made me wonder it it were too light weight. The legs looked ti...

Ingeniously designed tripod

By William D.

I needed a tripod that would fit in my suitcase (interior length just over 18 in). All of my other tripods have legs that close downward so that the ball head and legs extend in opposite directions. This tripod has legs that close upward. To close the tripod, one extends the central column upward, then fold the collapsed legs upward. (I hadn't noticed this in the photos in the tripod's ad.) This allows the minimum length of the legs to be 16 in and still fit in my suitcase. Very clever design!
