Shopper : how do you snap the photo?James M : The monopod has to be held by hand or this falls over, so you can either take a manual photo or trigger the automatic shutter on your camera but you must manually hold camera and tripod always or will fall over and break, monopod only steadies camera a little

Versatile for little sport cameras, but don't expect it carry any weight

Note that this product cannot be used as a hiking pole, walking stick or cane. It is only designed to support the weight of a camera and will collapse if you lean on it. I am used to thinking of Manfrotto as "built like a tank" equipment but this is a light duty item which makes it very easy to carry. It's main feature is that it has a camera mount on both ends. A small sport camera can be mounted on the bottom end and extended to allow a different perspective for the shot. It can obviously be used as a "selfie stick" but it is long enough to extend over obstacles, etc. It includes a GoPro(tm) style mount as well as a very small ball head and these can be placed on either end. There is also a rubber cap which can be screwed onto either end. With the ball head on top and the rubber cap on the bottom, you have a conventional monopod. The little ball head is not going to support anything bigger than a sport camera of some kind. A larger camera could be attached directly to the top of the pod or something like the Manfrotto tilt head adapter for monopods could be used. That adapter probably weighs more than this pole, however! This product was designed for little cameras and is best used for that purpose.

I use this telescopic selfie stick with a small adapter nut which connects to the Manfrotto Pixie tripod and use a 360 degree camera. Using this combination creates a very small footprint on the images, all you can see it the tripod.

Compact Xtreme is the first pole that transforms into a monopod. It is the perfect solution for users who own both action and Compact System Cameras and are looking for a sturdy, easy and ready to use tool to help them capture outdoor events and fully share their experiences in a way they've never been able to before.

The Manfrotto Compact Xtreme boasts 4-section tubes made of a combination of Adapto and aluminum and can hold a payload up to 1 kg.

It features a 1/4 thread both on top and underneath, allowing a rapid change in the product's configuration in just a few easy steps. The monopod configuration comes with a rubber foot under its leg ensuring extreme stability on any type of surface. This foot -like all the other accessories - can easily be moved to achieve the desired set-up.

By simply moving the ball head from the top of the handgrip to the bottom of the tubes, the monopod turns into a pole. This means passionate photographers can count on an extremely lightweight support (280 g) they can use in two different ways.

Moreover, this new pole includes a GoPro adaptor so it can be used with the camera that best fits any type of situation. The rounded handgrip allows a very comfortable hold while the wrist strap guarantees extreme safety of use.
