I'm in Love

I found this Nat Geo branded Ball head extremely easy to use and functional. There is only 2 major controls (and a tension control). Only one minor snit ... the rubber gasket that covers the ball and presumably protects it against the elements may not last. Since this is [$]bucks cheaper then the Manfrotto ball head it is a rebranded copy of I have no complaints... very solid and reliable.

About National Geographic NGEH1 Expdition Hydrostatic Ball Hd

The NGEH1 and NGEH2 heads are simply the most advanced ball heads in the world, incorporating the innovatve hydrostatic locking system to produce an absolute rock-solid lock with the small turn of a knob. Using hydraulics instead of a mechanical approach produces a super-tight lock with minimal amounts of knob turning. The effect produced is a smooth moving ball, but when locked, essentially becomes a solid part with the head. These revolutionary heads use the latest materials for silky smooth operation and its magnesium shell produces feather light weight. Ideal for photographers using large telephoto lenses, the NGEH1 is easy to operate, with a newly designed large ergonomic handle with precise friction adjustment. A rubber bellows system prevents dirt and debris from entering the ball area ensuring problem-free photography even in the most exteme locations.
