Good forms and good information

It's basically a reference-type book with legal forms that can be photocopied and/or printed from PDF files (it comes with a disk). These are forms such as model releases and contracts, but also applications for copyright: pretty much everything that a photographer would need. I have yet to use the disk so cannot comment on it, but it has a lot of useful legal forms, and will follow the photographer from a first job, all the way through to a big gig. What is nice is that it has sections along with the form itself that better explain the form and legal concepts involved. This helped me make a lot better sense of copyright law. I don't really have any complaints. why not 5 stars? I would like a bit more information on some of the forms, but this reflects a personal taste in more technical information. I think this is perfect for the audience it's aimed at-- photographers with no legal background.

About Business and Legal forms for Photographers by Tad Crawford, ISBN: 158115206X

Here's the classic "bible" of forms and checklists for every situation a professional photographer may face. Thoroughly expanded and updated to cover the Internet, this Third Edition contains 31 forms, each ready-to-use as is, or easily tailored to fit any situation. Photographers will find contracts for wedding, portrait, and assignment photography; property and model releases, assignment estimates, confirmations, and invoices; delivery memos; license for Web usage; nondisclosure agreements; and much, much more. An accompanying CD-ROM provides electronic versions of these forms, ready to use on both Macs and PCs.

Both the manner and business of photography have changed in recent years. Technology has opened the door to new equipment and opportunities, as legal and economic changes have altered the way photographers find and perform jobs. Today's uncertain financial climate has emphasized the age-old need for photographers to negotiate and meet deadlines and budgets, while legal tools for protecting their work have assumed a new urgency. Help is now on the way. Attorney Tad Crawford has fully revised and expanded the industry classic Business and Legal Forms for Photographers, third edition, to help photographers organize and promote their businesses as well as minimize legal vulnerability.

For all of the most important transactions any photographer is likely to undertake, this volume contains thirty-one business and legal forms, step-by-step instructions, advice on standard contractual provisions, thorough discussion of contractual issues relevant to the industry, and unique negotiation checklists to help photographers operate with the highest standards of professionalism.

The third edition of this esteemed guide has been updated to cover electronic rights' issues and includes five new forms for trademark application, employment application, employment agreement, restrictive covenant for employment, and project employee contract.

Tad Crawford has served as counsel for the Copyright Justice Coalition (which included the ASMP and the APA) and the Graphic Artists Guild. He is author of the Business and Legal Forms series for designers, fine artists, photographers, illustrators, and authors and self-publishers, as well as of Legal Guide for the Visual Artist and The Money Mentor: A Tale of Finding Financial Freedom. The senior editor for Legal Affairs for Communication Arts magazine, he lives in New York.
