Great for the money

Knife came beautiful and sharp, it's a Benchmade as always perfect! The sheath is tight I don't see what people are saying it's loose? Maybe something they addressed. Can't beat it for the price get one while you can. The grip is a comfortable addition to it.

Great value great knife ,Puukko 200

Great value exactly as advertised. I have been using this knife off and on for over two and a half years as a primary knife while on motorcycle camping fishing trips. Has done a great job at all camp tasks, fire prep, fire building, and food prep. When riding I carry it sheathed in my chest vest pocket with absolutely no issues. In camp I use the "dangle sheath". After reading the other reviews or criticisms of the sheath I agree that the sheath could be improved but I did this myself by what I've done to all my knives over the years, I added a para cord slip loop to the handle which I use often and always during fire prep. This loop doubles to secure the knife in the sheath when wrapped around the fire steel loop on the sheath with the fire steel installed. Cost "ten cents"! The sheath is fine and functional. I will not criticize the knife, it is a great knife. I did modify the end of the handle by exposing the steel so when I use the knife to split wood with the tip by beating(batoning) the handle/pommel I'm striking the blade steel. The knife is great for fishing tasks, the handle does not slip when wet even when your hands are cold. As I mentioned I use leather gloves when using this knife along with the para cord slip loop for safety reasons and I have never had one issue. The 3V steel of the blade is razor sharp and stays sharp a long time. I only have to strophe with compound to bring it back to razor sharpness. In closing I highly recommend this knife for a lightweight general purpose, everyday task knife while camping, fishing or general wood craft.

Great product and price

I have been looking for a blade that can hold an edge for carving wood I have found the only blade I will ever need 3v steel is perfect I have not had to sharpen it since I have had it just strop it a few times the blade is perfect size I like the modified Scandy grind it really bites into the wood wasn't sure about the handle material but the handle is comfortable and grippy I have no complains about the knife or the price

Best knife for the money

The sheath on this knife is just ok. The knife itself is practically indestructible when it comes to woodworking. I've batoned thru kiln dried red oak with this knife a many bundles to test it out. You will have no problem splitting 3"&4" cut pieces of wood for fires. Holds and edge for an extended period of time. I used a stone to put a sharp 90 degree spine on the back of the knife. It took some time but well worth it. I really wish they made this in a 1095 version. I currently own 2 of these knives and the Leuku.

Unbeatable simplicity

Picked up the knife at a local outfitters store because i'd heard about the 3v steel.. Benchmade's factory edge was hair-splitting as always, and the rest of the knife is just as beautiful. the sheath is excellent for what it is, and the profile of the knife is such that making a sheath would be easy. The only complaint I could possibly have is the Santoprene handle.. in my experience santoprene tends to be much slicker than the description would have you believe. Easy fix though - grab some athletic tape from your nearest walmart and wrap once around the middle? Grip will never come off. Fantastic blade.

Good Value, Lacking Some Features

This is about the best price going on any CPM-3V knife, and what you get for that is significant. No complaints on strength steel, or handle material. I do have a few suggestions for consideration. It would be nice, as others have mentioned, to have a 90 degree spine for use with a ferro rod and/or for tinder shaving. It would also be nice to have the sheath deeper which would add to the ability of the sheath to actually retain the knife. I can get about 20 minutes of good retention by squeezing the empty sheath together, but who remembers to stop and do that all the time? Kinda missed the mark on that. I'll probably get an aftermarket Kydex sheath for it. The handle is contoured well, but doesn't quite fill a larger hand, so that reduces the effectiveness of the ergonomics. I get that it has to work for the majority of folks, just FYI for ham hands. All things considered, I don't regret the purchase, and you can't find the steel at this price.

200 Puukko w/ sheath fix

I love the knife. 3V steel in this app is great, and the feel of the handle is superb. The sheath is a problem; I increased the retention with a piece of 1/8 think adhesive backed neoprene.

Great knife, terrible sheath

I love the knife. Great size, great blade, great steel. The rubber-type Santoprene handle material- meh. Easily melts if you drop it near or in the fire. (I'm clumsy and have done this) Micarta would be better. The sheath is of very low quality. Zero retention for the knife in the sheath. Also, not sure what kind of leather it is but it seems like p[leather, and has a plastic liner in it. I'm sure the knife would have to be more expensive to have a nicer sheath, but still. This sheath is...just not good. I love Benchamde knives, have a couple mini and full size grips. But this sheath is not great. All in all, keep looking if you're interested, or be prepared to make or buy a better sheath.

The best... Hands down

I bought the knife after watching the guys at Dutch Bushcraft Knives beat this thing up! I went on a 7 day ultra light hike in Colorado with no issues, and within 5 minutes on a strop I had it back to shaving sharp. I would recommend this to a friend, and if I had the need for it I would buy another one. Side note: I have dealt with Benchmade's customer service, and it is the best there is. Thanks!

Great steel

Just about perfect, I'd prefer a thinner blade. I love 3V steel, great toughness and very good edge retention. For fixed blade knives, this is the best optimization. A real bonus is how rust resistant I've found 3V to be. Knife design is all about trade offs and 3V hits the sweet spot better than any other (in my experience).

Fabulous

I usually don't bother with reviews, but I'll make an exception for this little bad boy. The knife has become my favorite among a collection of other very good (and more expensive) knives. The size is great, absolutely all purpose. I cook with it, eat with it, carve with it and even tried battoning just to see if it would die... Nope... Still shaves arm hair after about 5 blocks of wood and the tip was fine(although battoning is not its intended purpose I think). I reprofiled it sligtly to have a sabervex and it's even better now, but that depends on personnal taste I guess. The most amazing thing about it though, is how nice it feels in the hand. Sometimes I just hold it and play around with it even after a few months. Excellent knife made with an excellent steel at a real bargain price. I would say the sheath is kinda rubbish compared to other brands, and I did have to sharpen the spine (two minutes with a DC4), but those are really minor issues in my opinion. Kudos, Benchmade!

So close, but not quite

I bought in the UK, where it goes for the equivalent (mid 2019) of $200. For the same sort of money you can buy Lion Steel M390 with CNC contour milled scales, beautifully finished steel and hand stitched Italian leather sheath. Hard to argue the value for money of this Benchmade. Even if it is priced lower than most other knives they offer here. The sheath on this knife is awful. The knife falls out any time the sheath is inverted. In the US it seems like its a law suit waiting to happen. The ferro rod loop is too small, by a long way, to fit a ferro rod. Just about everyone I have talked to or read who wants to use this for bushcraft accepts that they have to re-profile the edge to a lower angle so it will cut as required....and grind the spine sharp to strike sparks of that notional ferro rod. The handle shape is pretty good, but too thin for long term comfort in hard cuts. However it is the checker pattern that is the killer. Great for a hunting knife, not good for something that you might use long or often over days. Whether it is a blister maker has yet to be decided, its hard to persist when your palm is getting a painful waffle pattern impression. Dang I wanted to like this knife, the grind can be worked with, and it can be re-sheathed, but that handle is going to have me reaching for something else more often than not.

Excellent knife, sheath needs work.

I love this knife, lightweight enough for backpacking, but tough enough for bushcrafting. I've used it to hack some branches and even baton a log, then turn around and precisely slice some meat and veg to put on my new fire. However, there have been two times where I've had to break into a jog while this knife has been on my belt. It's fallen out of the sheath both times. If I'm running, I have other worries and shouldn't be focusing on if my gear is staying with me. I'm making an extra snap loop to put on the sheath, but at this price I shouldn't have to. Knife is great, steel is great, grip is great, sheath just needs to be secure.

Outstanding blade for the value

I've used this sporadially outdoors for trimming branches, pruning stuff in my orchard for several weeks in addition to opening boxes/letters and cutting rope. I haven't had to sharpen it yet. It did arrive in what benchmade refers to as shave sharp (or very close to it!). I had a sv30 assist folder from this company that was not as sharp as they claimed, this 3v steel blade is superior for outdoor use and will be in my utility knife collection for a long time. FYI: I'm told this is a sabre grind type blade and that stropping on sabre grind is not recommended due to the rounding effect that stropping has, instead use a DMT sharpening stone or a Tormek if you are confident in your sharpening skills.

Great little knife

The knife per se performs really well, but the customer service is indeed a benchmark.

Great knife

I love this knife, that doesn't happen often, it sharpens great, good utility design, great in hand, it is well received in the bush craft community, and I can see why. I hope Benchmade decides to offer this in a OD green handle and possibly other color choices, I think it would be a cheap small change that everyone would like, people like variety, no doubt about that and there is a strong following for this model so it wouldn't be risky at this point.

The sorta puukko

I wouldn't call this a true Puukko but a Benchmade version of a Puukko. Now with that said the knife..outstanding. The steel CPM3v while not stainless does not rust like a true carbon steel. Takes an amazing edge and holds it well. Did I say tough, well it is a tough steel. This is one handy little knife with what I would call a saber grind..I reprofiles mine and it's now closer to a sabervex, and sharp. I keep a little emergency kit in my truck and that's where this little guy is going when it's not riding on my hip. The size is great, one handy little knife that is easy to use and nimble in hand. The sheath is,ok, I replaced mine with a sheath from JRE. I prefer something a bit more solid. For what's its worth this knife is a steal at the price point Benchmade is charging. Great ergo, great steel, the handle is outstanding. The only minor gripe I have is I wish that Benchmade had sharpened the spine for use with a fire steel, but I always carry a striker so no big deal. Good job Benchmade.

Phenomenal

This knife came to me out of the box shaving sharp. I can pick splinters with the point of the blade - sharp! The grip is incredible, I am confident of a secure grip in any environment. Fits very snug in the sheath and looks good. Feels very good in hand, zero worries about fatigue in usage. Very lightweight and a strong steel. This knife compared to other Benchmade's, and I have a "few", is way underpriced. For someone that wants a solid workhorse knife this one would be perfect.

Love this knife

This is an outstanding general purpose knife. The ergonomics are excellent. I have large hands and a lot of knives don't quite fit. The handle material and texture are super grippy. The knife is balanced a little back on the handle which makes it feel even more solid in the hand. Everything about this knife is about comfort and solid grip. Only negative I can think of is the color of the handle. It picks up dirt and scuffs, but this is not a show knife. The price point for this knife is below what I'd expect for this quality. If Benchmade releases a version with a darker handle color, I will not hesitate to own a second one. You won't be disappointed.

My New Favorite Outdor Knife!

Just picked this up and already loving it! The grip is solid and textured handle keeps it secure. The leather holster is a good quality and the new steel is something I look forward to testing out. Perfect size to carry all day long hiking.
