I purchased this for pictures. Although it gives a great looking background it scratches very easily!I used for one photo shoot and am unable to used again. I don't have very heavy items either. Vases, figurines and glasses etc. be wary

The flotone paper arrived with a small nick in the surface. I am using it anyway, but at that price, I expected it to be flawless.

I love this background ? I can take photos of my artwork in my spare bedroom that look like they came from a professional studio. The only downside is that they are very fragile. I go through a couple a year, and I managed to visibility scratch the latest one within 10 minutes of using it. I wish they were more durable. I spend a fair amount of time photoshopping the scratches out of my photos.

My inexpensive light box came with a set of colored vinyl backgrounds, but they are shiny and monochromatic. I was easily able to cut this graduated piece to size and the result is superior photographs. Now I want additional color combinations!

And yes, the background is susceptible to scratching so be careful moving artwork.

This Flotone (Thunder Gray to white) has been one of my best tools for my photo shots. I need a professional background for my jury shots and this paper it the best. I am not a professional photographer and my pictures look great. You must be careful to not scratch the surface it will mar easily. I would highly recommend this product.

Here's what you do: take your light stand and the Flotone to a good hardware store. Buy a solid wooden dowel, as wide as the Flotone; now, ask the hardware guy to drill a hole in the center of the dowel, as wide as and as deep as the metal top of your light stand. Next, securely duct tape the Flotone to the dowel. I then duct taped the plastic, as well, to keep the Flotone clean. Now you can safely roll up your nice new portable background, and securely set it up on your light stand when you have location jobs.

This graduated backdrop is exactly as I expected. The graduation is smooth and covers a nice range of tone from almost pure white to almost black. The only real drawback is the same as with all brands of vinyl backdrops and that is that they scratch if you look at them too hard. I am reserving my fifth star for one that is more scratch resistant. Other than that it works great and was priced nicely compared to other brands.

This is a very nice product and works perfectly for my small light Booth however the reason I don't give it more stars is because it is ridiculously easy to scratch and mar. you would think in this day and age they would be able to put a more durable surface on something like this knowing that products will be on and off of it continuously.

I have used the product in all of its forms over the past 35 years (plus) to shoot objects that demand reflective lighting but still require distinct contrast from backgrounds; Silver, alabaster, and glass... Flotone is a great value, distributed by the best of the photo dealer bunch. i recommend the slightly lighter version for those that want to control the darkness of the gradation with light rather than being forced to use the deep black range. Buy both and have it all!

I recently used this background to shoot 600 individual products for a client's catalog. The products ranged in color and size and I had to work very fast to complete all in two days. The graduated background was perfect choice to make all products stand out whether they were light or dark colored. Client was very impressed. Cons: Wish it was a little bit larger... they need to make a medium size. The matte surface is very delicate and scuffs easily. Even the slightest touch of a finger tip while placing/removing items will leave a visible blemish. I'm told these blemishes will wash off but when you are working fast, you don't have time to wash with water and wait to be dry.

Perfect for table-top or small studio setups, if you are going to use for headshots you will need to use a longer lens to insure it fills the frame. Works great, Easy setup and lighting! I wish they made one a few feet wider.

Produces a nice graduated background. The grey is a little on the cool side but when color balanced for the middle of the gradation it gives the objects a little warmer tone. i use it for baskets, ceramics and small sculptures.
