I'm using this with Fujifilm X-T30. Previously I've used the 5" version with Sony A5100 and Canon 5D3. Being able to record 10bit 422 color is very nice. Makes color grading much easier. Very helpful with exposure, too. Waveforms, false color very useful. I wish there were other portable powering options. USB, for example. No problems in studio or other places there is a wall outlet.

Solid product, needs fast uhs ii cards to record ULTRA 4K. As at when i got mine it comes with version 2.4 . Can't record DCI 4K from my GH4 but UHD worked perfectly. Updating to version 2.5 soon to get all the new goodies. I also recommend good quality HDMI cables you can find here on Adorama too and the transcend uhs ii card which works perfectly for me. Its heavy thus nice pairing it with the canon battery. But for a longer battery life i recommend npf to lp-e6 adaptors which will allow you use sony battery on it but that also adds to the weight.

If you just need this as a monitor and you pick it up on sale, it's worth every penny. Blackmagic seems to still be supporting it with updates and the focus peaking is best of breed. If you want it as a recorder, it's fine but there are limitations- There's only a couple 128GB SD cards supported for UHD ProRes HQ and even then, you can only get about 15 minutes on the card. Plus, those cards cost $ apiece. That said, much slower and cheaper cards will work for standard HD. No pulldown for cameras like the C100 that only send a 60i with 2:3 pulldown flags. Not a huge deal, but it's an extra step you have to take in your editor. Only other note is that the power consumption is HUGE on this thing. I can get about 105 minutes out of two fully charged batteries and that's when NOT recording (haven't tested while recording yet). Also, I had an old Wasabi battery that powers my DSLR fine but will not power this thing, so it appears to be picky.

Solid design & construction. And with the latest update (2.5), the Video Assist rivals some of the other professional monitors out there... with the added bonus that it is a recorder as well. Many. New formats for Avid have been added to the already numerous cross platform codecs & wrappers built in, so whatever NLE you use, your workflow will be smooth. To add a personal note... the unit I received had a faulty SD card slot, which concerned me, but Adorama directed me to contact. mad directly and they had a brand new unit to me immediately. I cannot say enough about the excellent, professional & friendly customer service from Blackmagic. I have loved their superior products at such an economical price, but now I am forever loyal to the wonderful folks at this awesome company.

Got the summer deal. Best value for the money easy. Nice build quality, LUT preview, easy to use Zebra & focus assist, responsive touchscreen. I plug it in if I have power available, eats batteries like a beast, but LP6's are cheap, so get 8.

I had a problem with the audio on this device and Adorama took it back (within 30 days) and sent me a new one, no questions asked! Adorama is a great company to do business with, THANKS! Oh yeah, the Video Assist gives me some really nice recordings! The mini XLR input connections are not my favorite, finding connectors is a little more difficult, but they are readily available.

High resolution monitoring and professional recording for any camera!
Now it's easy to add professional monitoring and recording to any SDI or HDMI camera with Blackmagic Video Assist! You get a super bright touch screen display that's much larger than the displays found on DSLR cameras, making it easier to accurately set focus and frame shots, plus you get high speed SD card recorders for HD or Ultra HD recording in incredible 10-bit 4:2:2 quality ProRes or DNxHD files. Now, with a 7" Ultra HD model, Blackmagic Video Assist works with any camera where you need better monitoring and more professional high quality file recording!
Shoot Better Video
See and capture every detail with confidence!
Whether it's a wedding, an indie film or a television commercial, you need to make sure your images are perfectly sharp and captured at the highest possible quality, no matter what type of camera you use. Blackmagic Video Assist works with everything from DSLR's to older tape based camcorders and even the latest digital film cameras. When you're shooting a wedding, there's only one chance to get it right and if you're an indie filmmaker, you want your film to look as good as a Hollywood movie when projected at festivals. Blackmagic Video Assist helps you make sure every shot is in focus and gives you professional images with the same recording quality used by major motion pictures and prime time TV shows!
7" high resolution monitor with Ultra HD recorder!
Video Assist 4K features a 7" high resolution screen, two high speed recorders for non-stop Ultra HD recording, XLR mic inputs, a built in speaker and more! The larger screen is 1920 x 1200, so you can see a full 16:9 image without the status bar covering the picture. Video Assist 4K features the latest high speed UHS-II SD card recorders and can record 1080 HD as well as Ultra HD up to 2160p30 on low cost, readily available SD cards! You also get two extremely low noise professional analog mini XLR connections so you can bypass low quality DSLR audio and connect professional microphones directly.
Professional HD and Ultra HD Recorder
10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes and DNxHD recording!
The 7" Video Assist 4K records HD and Ultra HD up to 2160p30. You get incredible looking, broadcast quality 10-bit, 4:2:2 ProRes or DNxHD files that work with all major editing software so you can start editing without having to convert them! Recording can be automatically triggered from SDI and HDMI so you can stay focused on getting the shot, without having to worry about operating additional gear! The 7" Video Assist 4K also has two recorders so when one card is full, it automatically continues recording onto the next!
Records to High Speed SD Card
Low cost, high performance storage you can get anywhere!
The 7" Video Assist 4K record HD video using standard SD memory cards and can also record to super high performance UHS-II cards which are fast enough to record Ultra HD! That means it's now possible to record Ultra HD using low cost cards that cost less than $2 per GB. By connecting Video Assist to your existing camera, you can eliminate proprietary and expensive media such as XDCAM, P2 and SxS. UHS-II cards are fully backwards compatible with regular SD card slots so you can just insert them into your computer to start editing the media immediately.
Better Monitoring
Super bright and clear display
Blackmagic Video Assist has a bright 7" display so you don't have to carry extra monitors and scopes on set! The large screens make it easy to see focus peaking and overlays such as histogram, audio meters, controls and more! You can mount it on cameras as a large crew monitor, hand it to the cinematographer for composing shots or set it in front of the director to review each take. The screen has a wide 135deg. viewing angle, which means it's easy to see, even when several crew members are watching. The image also auto rotates, so you can even rig it upside down!
High Quality Audio
Better audio recording than most cameras!
Blackmagic Video Assist 4K is also an extremely high quality audio recorder! You get two mini XLR inputs with 48V of phantom power so you can attach external microphones to record audio with Video Assist, instead of your camera. This totally eliminates the problems with auto gain controls on DLSR cameras! With an amazing equivalent input noise floor of -128dBV, you get high quality, crystal clear audio that sounds dramatically better than camera audio! Sound is recorded into the same file as the video so you don't have to worry about AV sync between separate audio and video files!
Easy Touchscreen Controls
Use simple tap and swipe gestures to make adjustments!
The built in monitor is also an interactive touchscreen that makes setting up the Blackmagic Video Assist incredibly intuitive. All of the functions are at your fingertips, allowing you to use simple tap and swipe gestures to display camera information, change settings and evaluate audio and video levels. The elegant heads up display let's you change recording formats or view the current input frame rate, histogram, audio meters, timecode and more, all while still keeping your eyes on the shot!
Portable All-In-One Design
Integrated on set monitoring and recording
Designed to be durable and light weight, both models are incredibly small yet still incorporate large LCD monitors and touch screens. Both models include high speed SD card recorders and space for two rechargeable batteries, which are hot swappable so you never have to stop shooting. You can use the mounting points to attach it to the top of a camera or use the built in kick stand to set it Upon a table. It's even comfortable enough to hold in your hands so you can pass it around to the crew. The 7" Video Assist 4K even features a built in speaker, making it easy for everyone to review shots!
Professional Connections
Connect to professional cameras, camcorders and DSLR's
The compact design of the Blackmagic Video Assist includes HDMI and 6G-SDI so you can connect them to virtually any DSLR, prosumer or professional camera! The loop thru output lets you monitor on larger displays or projectors. The 12V universal power supply gives you continuous operation. When you're on location, two side by side LP-E6 batteries give you enough power for longer shoots! The Blackmagic Video Assist 4K also features a LANC connector and two mini XLR inputs with 48V of phantom power for connecting microphones, along with a built in speaker that automatically mutes while recording!
Work with Professional Software
Record files that are ready for editing and grading
Blackmagic Video Assist captures ProRes and Avid DNxHD files which are the most widely accepted post production video formats in the world. If you are working with popular editing software such as DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Premiere Pro or Avid Media Composer, you can start editing and color correcting without having to transcode or convert the files. Since it comes bundled with DaVinci Resolve Lite, you can begin editing and creating looks on set! Even motion graphics and visual effects artists using software like Fusion and After Effects or sound editors using ProTools can easily work with the files for fantastic collaboration!
