I purchased my set of 201s about 28 years ago. They replaced my 301s. The 201s are outstanding and I would not buy any other brand of speaker. When someone mentios the word speaker Bose comes to mind. They are an excellent bookshelf speaker. The range is dynamic and faithfully reproduce the whole sound spectrum of whatever you might listen too. I listen to most types of music and I can say that these speakers are a pleasure to hear. I plan to buy a new pair of 301s in the future. Highly recommended. It's the best sounding speaker for the money.

Bought this about a year ago mainly for the Bose name. Used them as front speakers on my home theatre setup. Quite disappointed with the sound. Very dull, flat and muffled sound. Not really elegant and aesthetic looking either. Had to get rid of them and replaced them with a pair of second hand B&W.

Been using these for about a year now and find them quite disappointing. Sound is quite full and flat compared to the Yamaha's. Not worth the full price.

The speakers are a little "dull" if you know what I mean. They are a solid buy for the price but I guess I was expecting a little more from the Bose name. Good for your garage I guess

Im 42 and recieved my 201s when I was 16. Through Hendrix, Dre, Maiden, disco, Daft Punk, Mozart, Ella Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman and all the sweet sounds in between they have given me a sanctuary of sound, pure to the core. From the first day to today and sure beyond. My Bose 201s have never left me without but only wonder. Multiple moves, many parties and a house fire. In my opinion when you stand in front of one speaker and can hear the notes and tones from the other; you have quality sound. I live by Bose, only Bose. Of course I have a set of 301s and someday get the holy grail 901s. Bry.L

I've had a pair of 201's for several years now. You will not find a better speaker for twice the price.

I've been an audiophile all of my adult life. I had two pairs of Bose 901s that I used in two adjoining rooms since 1979. I was always happy with them. But I was recently forced to down-size - a house fire. The new house is much smaller so I decided to go with a Bose Acoustic Wave Series II. It more than fit the bill. It's great. I just set up a hobby room/workshop in the basement. Since it wouldn't be 'listening room' I thought I'd go cheap. Then, I thought that since I've been so happy with Bose, let's check them out. I bought the 201's. Don't think of these speakers as 'low end' Bose. And don't think of them as only good for home theater speakers. They fill the area with clear, robust sound. Much better than I expected. Now, I have a 'listening chair' in the basement. They are that good at a very good price.

I have converted single car garage into a home theater, using 2 pairs of Bose 201's as surround speakers and 1 pair of Bose 301's as main front speakers and a pair of Bose 161 as ambiance speakers and A bose center channel speaker (Discontinued Model) and a powered Subwoofer. I have gotten great reviews and have assisted three others in duplicating my system they love the rich sound and crispness delivered by all my the bose speakers, I would compare my system to any custom system out there. great products, great sound !

I was specifically looking at book shelf speakers and price. My room size is about 12X16 so going with floor speakers wasn't a good option for me do to space and room configuration. I listened to many to many manufacturers to compare sound quality. With all the quality manufacturers out there the choice was tough. I do not favor one brand over the other however, I favor what my ear likes. I ended up at the Bose store and listened to the 161's, 201's, and the 301's. I purchased the 201's and hooked them up to my Yamaha 7.2 channel. I am only running 3.1 at this time. I could hear and understand what they mean by directional. Since the tweeters of the 201's point towards the center of the listening and viewing area I could hear the vocals change when I stepped to the side of the optimum spot. At this point I was questioning my purchase. Conversely, I had listened to other manufacturers speakers do the same when I stepped to the side of them. I'm no sound expert here but it seems to me that all speakers are directional. They are all optimal in the direction the speakers point. Well I had the Bose VCS-10 center channel and I added that to the pair of 201 V's. With all 3 going it doesn't matter where I stand in the room. From highs to mids I can hear everything crisply through out the entire room. The 201's have decent bass on their own (relative to their size) but I added my 12 year old subwoofer to the mix. From movies to music, low volume or high volume, I am very pleased with the sound of the 201's. Lets face it, unless you are buying book shelf speakers as garage speakers you will probably end up adding a subwoofer and center channel to any home theater system. The left and right speakers are a component to the other speakers and the 201's compliment the center channel and sub very well. Even with out the subwoofer on the 201 V's did not distort and are very clear through out a wide volume range. Highly worth a look for the price.

Got my 201's a year ago, by the pool table, there are 301's on wall 25ft away, sound great but we know 301's out play the 201's. So the 201's will go in the other room, I am happy with 6 Bose's purchases. My neighbor works for Harmon/JBL, got to listen to his stuff to compare.

I purchased my 601's and 201's in the early 90's and had to part with the 601"s because of financial hardship but kept my 201's. I just unboxed them after 20 years and numerous military moves and these baby's still crank out some crisp clear tunes. Great investment.

I bought them last year...and I have stopped using surround sound options..in fact I didn't have to spend on the Powered sub-woofer I was planning to.. these are more than enough.. plugged into my Onkyo 7.1 but used only the Stereo Option. If you are a serious Audio buff (and speaker are audio, right?) you dont need to splurge.. why use a dozen speakers when two do the job...

I Bought Mine at Best Buy about a Month 1/2 ago. I keep them in My Man-Cave room in the Apt.. These Bad Boy's are exactly what I needed, And more importantantly,What they intended for. Which is to fill a small room with great sound. I collect records as a hobby, not to mention I have over 2000 CD's, I buy a lot of the new new stuff, Willie Nelson, Chris Stapelton, The Rolling Stones Re-issues etc... on Vinyl, and Yes, I DO play and Listen to them as I do others. These Bose are Setup in way facing Me in a chair, with a laptop. I run them through a simple Insinga Amplifier, hooked up a Numark M101 mixer, Run 2 Turntables, and a CD player. and man, These Thing's SEPERATE the music in way's I never heard !!! glad I got them. My next Pair will be 301's. and as for being a Veteran, as soon as i get the VA stuff right, and get a house, hopefully the 901's one day !!

The Bose 201 Series V Direct/Reflecting Speaker System speakers are designed to work with a variety of stereo receivers and amplifiers as either front or rear channel speakers. The open, spacious performance of these speakers makes them an ideal choice for home theater, or for listening to CD's, tapes, or radio broadcasts.
