Questions & Answers

Brody D : Do I need a bose receiving/amplifier for this to work? Or will these speakers work with any system?PHILLIP C : I was asked by Adorama to respond to your question because I recently purchased a set of JBL bookshelf speakers. I don't know the answer because I've never owned Bose equipment. My guess is the Bose speakers would probably work with any receiver/amplifier/preamp, but Bose may be more proprietary than that, and may require a Bose amplifier/receiver to make Bose speakers work. Sorry I can't provide an answer with any certainty.
Shopper : can this speak mount on ceiling?JAMES S : It's not very heavy, so it's possible.

Rear enclosure results in uniform sound, but...

One of the great advantages of these speakers is the rear enclosures provide an optimum and uniform volume, thus similarity of sound between multiple speakers in the same room. ( Speakers without this feature can have the sound coloured by the size of the studwork in the walls. Studwork frequently changes spacing even in the same wall. ) The offset tweeters give a very wide dispersion of sound, which is great as an effects speaker in a surround sound setup. However, the but is the speakers lack the ability to give any solid bass. As surround speakers this is OK. When used as a main L/R pair, their bottom end rolloff is so high it is difficult to find that crossover sweetspot with a subwoofer. Certainly needs to be used with an amp that acts as an active crossover rather than one which just has a low pass filter for the subwoofer output. When set up right with a wide range sub ( Eg flat to around 500-600Hz instead of the usual crossover frequency of 100-250Hz ) these speakers do have a nice open sound.

Buyers remorse

I wired the whole house for speakers. I have three pairs of these in three different rooms as well as a fourth pair added to a bose acoustimass 10 system. These speakers are not even worth powering on. There is no mid and no bass. I have Bose everything in the house and my disappointment with these speakers is an understatement. My only option is to sell used and buy something else.
