Good hardware, inconvenient software
The scanner is quite good, but the software is very inconvenient.
1) Each workflow takes a square inch of the screen. I have more than 20 so it is hard to find the one I want. The list SHOULD be customizable like Windows Explorer - small icons, big icons, list with details, sortable by date, name, or number of images in the folder.
2) The workflows aren't displayed in any order.
3) I accidentally set several of them to trigger when I click the icon. I'd like to turn that on and off.
4) 19 of my workflows put pictures into subfolders of the same master folder. I put them in the wrong place and have to move the master folder. It seems that I have to delete them all and create them all from scratch again. BAD BAD BAD!
5) I don't know how to delete workflows. Will I end up with 40, 20 obsolete ones and 20 updated ones?
6) If I get a jam and clear it before telling the workflow to start again, the software hasn't noticed that the jam has been cleared. I have to hit OK and trigger the workflow again.
7) When creating workflows, browsing for the right folder should start near the most recent folder I used instead of forcing me to select a drive and then drill down to where I have created a new subfolder.
8) When creating workflows, the default document format should be whatever I last chose.
9) When creating folders, the default workflow name should be the name of the chosen folder.

An Excellent Performing Portable Scanner
I was very pleasantly surprised with just how portable yet very efficient the DS-640 scanner is. Being executor for an out of state estate I had over 40 documents to scan for legal matters and needed an inexpensive scanner quickly to get the job done. Installation was very easy with clear and easily understood instructions. (There are also several good YouTube instructions and reviews) I found the scanner to easily scan various sizes smoothly and accurately with very, very good resolution. I scanned everything from a laminated driver license to full 11 X 17 documents flawlessly. The settings within the software are easily understood with easy to find abilities to change settings to each particular need. I only review products that are either very good or very bad. This scanner wins an excellent review. Well worth the inexpensive cost to get such a thorough scanner inexpensively. Highly recommend.

Efficient little scanner
I bought this scanner to scan receipts so I can track purchases for a senior center that I volunteer at. It was easy to set up and use. Best part it wasn't overly expensive. Works really well.

DS-640 portable scanner

I would definitely buy this scanner Brother again!
This Brother scanner is incredibly easy to use, while scanning a simple receipt or sheets of paper. The software is very easy to navigate! I am so thrilled with this scanner! It makes scanning so much easier now!

Not as Easy as I Thought
The scanner is fairly easy to use. The problems I have encountered is doing multiple scans at once. I cannot figure out how to do that. The other problem is finding where the scans are.

Not nearly as practical as an Epson
Quite disappointed in the scanner in comparison to an Epson DS-30 which I owned for 12 years. The DS-640 has to be reconnected to the computer each time I launch the scanning app. Additionally, the scanning app requires clicking through several screens to just save a scan. Way more cumbersome that the Epson Scan app. The only positive is that it scans quicker than the Epson.

Just what I Needed
It makes scans of full documents relatively quickly. It is a considerable improvement on our old flatbed scanners, especially the one where each scan was a separate document. And it is inexpensive.

Great for Home Kitchen / Office!
My Office is the Kitchen. My Desk is the Dinner Table. This Scanner is the perfect size. All I need to do is to temporarily move some of the Clutter, giving me enough space to start the paper going through then end afterwards. And it's actually very easy to use. "Obviously" you can't scan anything with multiple pages. But that's no big deal for me.

It won't work with my Windows 11Pro laptop
It won't work with my Windows 11Pro laptop. When I try to scan I get an error saying something about the connection. Other things work on the USB on this computer and the scanner with work on my Windows 10 tablet. Tech support couldn't help. They just kept saying something is wrong with my computer?which may or may not be the case.

NOT THE SAME AS THE DS620!!!!! Horrible
I used the DS-620 for years and loved it. THEN they decided not to support it for Windows 11 so I bought the DS640. Horrible. I spent 3 weeks straight with tech support. I shouldn't have to edit EVERY PICTURE. I didn't have to do that with the 620. Don't buy it!!!!!! I bought a Plustek z300 and it works beautifully like the DS-620.

DS-640 Document Scanner
This little guy is Dynamite..., I can save Bills, Product instructions, Credit cards, Warranties, and so much more... I needed a scanner so I went to Amazon and spotted this DS-640... It was exactly what I wanted and needed.... "THIS IS ONE FABULOUS PRODUCT", it's beside me all the time.... again, WOW...

Scanning On The Go!
For me, the huge benefit to this little scanner is that I can use it in my car. I work with a cat rescue group, mostly transporting cats and kittens to and from a clinic, where they are tested, vaccinated and spayed or neutered. Keeping track of their treatment is important, as many go on to cat adoption organizations who require a record of their treatment. We receive a paper copy from the clinic, and for added security, I scan this into my computer as well. Since the paperwork stays with the cat, being able to scan the paperwork on our way to drop them off saves time. I take my Apple MacBook and this scanner with me and I can set the scanner up on the dashboard, connect the cable and I'm in business. I did try a cheaper hand scanner, but the image wasn't satisfactory. It was hard to scan the document smoothly and what I ended up with was smaller than I wanted. This scanner is not much bigger and it draws in the document to scan it, so the quality of the scan is excellent.
