It's a nice printer but it has a big drawback, It only has 512mg of memory, Which is not upgradable. I don't print photos very often but when I do I'd like to be able to to them the way I used to. My last printer had two gig of memory and a dual processor and nothing but nothing stopped it. As I said this one is a nice printer but it has that one horrible drawback.

Returned it to Staples and purchased an Hewlett-Packard instead. I recommend you do the same. I work as it for many local, small businesses, helping them get set up with pure networks and interactive websites and so on, so I do have a background in computers as well as electrical engineering. 1). As more and more manufacturers and software developers are gathering invasive personal, sometimes private information in selling it online, i'm slowly getting used to having to give a manufacturer ridiculous amounts of personal information when all I need to do is register a product for its warranty. You cannot get this printer to work or interface with any device you have unless you complete the app and fill up all the information they want. The information is very invasive and inappropriate. 2) yeah it does not work well, requiring repeated, restarts and reconnection to the brother website, and the printer. It took more than an hour to complete the set up, which is absolutely ridiculous. After that, the brother printed once and wouldn't print again. I tried to finagle it and it just wasn't having any. Just kept asking me to enter more information on the other website, synchronize the app, set up controls in the printer, and so on. It was never able to work correctly from the device that I actually installed the app on, let alone any device that did not have an app fully installed and integrated with brother. At this point, I think the brother company should considering changing their name to "Big Brother" 3) after literally two decades of using brother machines myself and recommending them to clients and friends, I have to resend my approval of their machinery, how it is built, and therefore more. This machine does not function properly, nor does it print particularly well. It is a significant step backwards in manufacturer and quality for brother, and I have to think that the company has been resolved or taken over by somebody because now they're interested in cleaning every bit of information they can from you while making an inferior product. I took it back to Staples and explained the unbelievably bad software and the invasive nature of the app and he was nonplussed. Simply told me, basically, just get used to it. That's what they're all doing now". I suppose this is just where we are now technologically. Quality of manufacturing is going down and down along with the dependability and longevity of product life, while every bit of software in hardware you buy wants to know all your personal information more intimately than your proctologist would. I used to distain Hewlett-Packard machines because, while their hardware was excellent, their software was kind of a mess and buggy. Now I have to change my position and say stay away from brother, and give your money to heal a package. They made a machine with a minimally invasive set up that functions for everybody and the only person who needed to have the app on their devices to run it with the administrator. We all need printers, but an ideal printer should just sit in mind its own business most of the day when you're not using it and then when you ask it to do something, just do it! No fireworks no questions no "your app needs to be updated for this". I just want the printer to print what I'm looking at on my screen. The way that the printer manufacturers are making their software now you would think that you were asking him to engage warp drive and trouble faster in line. It's not really that complicated. Printers have been made for 50 years and worked effectively. All of a sudden it seems to be asking a lot to simply get two pages printed out of a printer in color that look reasonably close to what you saw on your device screen. Scarier than my experience with this product was wondering what things will be like three years from now. I guess they'll want a blood sample as soon as they figure out how to transmit one over the Internet. To sum up: just stay away

Recently purchased this HL-L3280CDW, and out of the box it has printer quality issue. It would leave behind dots/specks. I reached out to CS for support. They sent me toners to replace. That did not fix the issue. They are sending out new drums to see if it would fix it. The second representative was impatient and tried to rush me every 2 minutes if I can tell him the result after cleaning the drums. There are 4 drums and you have to rotate the wheels and wipe down each drum with isopropyl alcohol. To thoroughly clean it, it takes longer than 2 minutes. Ridiculous that a brand new printer has this much issue and not to mention rude CS.

The Brother HL-L3280CDW prints well when it works, but the ink cartridge policy makes it practically unusable. If even one cartridge runs empty, the entire printer locks up-meaning you can't print anything, not even simple black and white documents. This becomes a huge problem if you have an urgent job. Imagine needing to quickly print something important, but because one color cartridge is empty (even if you don't need that color), the printer is dead weight. I currently have plenty of black ink and other colors, but since the magenta ran out, I can't print at all. For a device that's supposed to be reliable, this is an incredibly poor design choice. It turns a decent printer into a source of frustration and wasted time. I can't recommend it.

Firstly, I liked the purchase cost; great price. Secondly, the picture reproduction and quality are excellent. I particularly like how the printed colors match the picture colors perfectly.

I used a HP LaserJet for a long time and then it fails on me. Constant connectivity issues expensive Media and then the light shine on my BROTHER. The printing is excellent connectivity is excellent. Haven't compared the Media yet because it hasn't run out.

Excellent printer. My second Brother printer. Both are trouble free. Good customer service. My old Samsung laser was good for many years but after brand X took over that line, no customer service without your credit card. My old Epson ink jet had the ink dry up too soon to be useful. Now it is a scanner only.

I needed a smaller color laser printer, and this one fit the bill. I was not hindered by the fact that it cannot scan as I have been using my phone to scan whatever I need and since I have my phone connected to my computer I can easily transfer the documents. It prints well and set up went pretty smoothly. I have it connected via Ethernet to my router and for some reason the port changed and I could not print. I found the port for my IP address and simply changed the port and all was working again. So far, I have been pretty happy.

After eight months of owning this printer, I can confidently say that I spent $300 on a paperweight from Brother. I say that because its only function has become taking up space in my bedroom due to it's inconsistent ability to function. This printer - in the off chance that it does print my documents - prints sharp text and vivid pictures. That being said, this is after much frustration of getting the documents to come out in the first place. Let me walk you through the average experience of using this printer: 1. Ensure the printer is plugged in and on with ample paper and appropriate ink levels 2. Ensure that your computer or phone is connected to the printer 3. Press print on your device 4. Receive an error message 5. Try printing using the "Direct Print" feature 6. Have the printer tell you it's no longer connected to WiFi 7. See that the printer needs a software update which can't be downloaded due the lack of WiFi connection experienced in step 6 8. Try connecting to the other WiFi network 9. Printer is no longer discoverable to your devices despite everything being on the same WiFi network 10. Attempt to print from a third device 11. Get angry and start a small argument with your partner 12. Complain about the printer and question why on earth you spent $300 on this 13. Realize 45 minutes has passed and still no printing has occurred 14. Say a prayer 15. Print...and it works this time! 16. Realize you printed the wrong page 17. Angrily go on Brother's website and write a review I'd give it 1 star but the page that was accidentally printed did look really great. I have an engineering degree and yet was taken down by a printer.

Based on my experience with my Brother MFC-L2700DW printer for the past 15 years, I purchased the HL-L3280CDW. This printer provides the same level of jam-free printing I have experienced with my B&W printer. It is also easy to setup and operate with either USB or AirPrint interfaces. Supplies are also widely available.

This is the worst printer I have ever owned. It printed for about two week and then stopped. It sent a fake message about a jammed paper and there was none, then it told me to swipe the rider on all the INK and I did it twice (I always do it before loading)-still will not print. I used only Brother ink and it still will not print. I wish I had never purchased it. Even my son, a knowledgable computer/printer person could not get it to work. I will never buy another Brother product.

I am very happy about my printer. I use it often to help my kids with education. I see there is a quality of the device. Heavy but sturdy. I won't break it easily. I wish the color on paper would be even more amazing but honestly it is already very good.

Great compact color printer. But a true pain in the butt to get connected and keep connected to the wifi. Brother support site was useless in helping to fix the issue. Reddit threads were helpful.

This printer is not built to last-expect it to fail within a year. Even if you manage to fix one issue, the "No Toner" error will likely appear next. After searching for solutions, I found that this is a common problem. In my experience, troubleshooting and support weren't helpful, so be prepared for delays if you need assistance. If reliability matters to you, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

The HL-L3280CDW is a nice little color laser. It's quiet and warms and prints quickly from sleep mode. Print quality is as advertised and expected. So far, toner consumption seems to be as expected. Great performance for the price.

Terrible printer. There is no toner override feature, so it stops printing right when it says it is low. Get a printer with a toner override and save yourself 30% more money on toner.

I have had the printer for a couple of months now and it makes good quality color printing. Setting up was easy. However, I continue to have a problem with printing .pdf files. Multi-page color .pdf's do not want to print and instead I get an error "couldn't print file" with no other explanation of why. This happens only for .pdf files whether I use Adobe Acrobat or a different program that can read those files.

Print clarity and color accuracy is great. This replaced an inkjet printer and our low print volume made cartridge maintenance/replacement a chore. Only drawback is that the toner is pretty pricey. Connection to network was easy and simple and now all our devices [laptops, tablets, and phones] all benefit from wireless printing.

Not worth the plastic it was built with. This model forces you to replace the toner cartridges after an arbitrary period, with no method for bypassing this, as in previous models. It WILL stop printing prior to your toner being empty, and there is literally nothing you can do other than purchase a new cartridge.

It's a nice printer overall but, is way to maintenance intensive and has a lot of "old school" printing techniques. Setting up to print an envelope is absolutely nuts! Quiet mode is still noisy, takes quite awhile to "wakeup" from being idle for an hour or more.

Bought this to replace an old HP. Bought it because I really enjoy my Brother 3300 Scanner. This unit never worked properly from day 1. Would never work in the wireless mode. Could never get it to work properly. Went back to an HP and all is well again!

Finally an honest company selling printers!

Highly recommend this printer for office or home use. Some useful tips: When you set it up, print your test page to make sure all is working as intended, then change settings to Mono so it only prints B&W. If you ever need to print in color just go into settings and change it back to Color. Also enable Toner Save mode. I have to tip my hat to Brother for providing these features. I'm a really hard sell when it comes to purchases like a printer and they've won me over as a loyal customer.
The Brother Wireless HL-L3280CDW is Awesome!
By Mark F.
My son and I purchased this printer because we were tired of the lack of quality that we were getting from our ink jet printer. We wanted a laser printer that did not have all of the fancy bells and whistles of the "all-in-one" ink jet printers. We wanted something that would just give us good quality printing. (We use this mainly for documents.) The fine line quality of his printer is amazing. We can now see details in the printing that just were not there with the ink jet. We are very happy...
