- Atelier Series Barker-Clarinet -

Barker-Clarinet library for Kontakt
Barker Clarinet is a true legato clarinet library performed by conductor and educator, Joshua Barker.

Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, Texas - they aimed to create an agile, emotive clarinet. Musical Sampling recorded all of the performances with natural, progressive vibrato. In their view, this helps warm up the sound and expands the emotional range of the instrument.

Each patch was produced to more uniquely address certain contexts. The Emotional patch includes a more subtle style of vibrato - fragile but confident. The Workhorse patch is an agile, mezzo-forte instrument - great for traditional, upbeat contexts.

The Fat Lead was actually recorded in the same space as Sasaki Trumpet/Austin Saxes - initially intended as an energetic compliment to those two libraries. What they found is that it also serves as an excellent, emotional instrument for strong, dramatic contexts where you really want the clarinet to properly sing.

Lastly, Musical Sampling included a Breaths patch - to help sell the performance with both short inhales and longer, subdued inhales with the clarinetist in the ready position.

What Is The Atelier Series?
Oftentimes during the research and experimental phase of development, Musical Sampling creates instruments that don't necessarily belong to a bigger, themed release. Instead of attempting to shoehorn them into a future release or trying to construct a comprehensive product around it, they decided to create the Atelier Series so that other composers can enjoy their explorations in sample development as well.

- Atelier Series Gabrielle Flute -

True legato flute library performed by Gabrielle Davis
Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, TX - the goal was to create a series of flute patches that could address a wide range of orchestral contexts while prioritizing responsive playability. Like all of the solo instrument releases from the Atelier Series, no keyswitches are required - just play in what you want and use the modwheel (or CC# of your choice) for dynamics.

The 'Workhorse' patch is exactly that - a solid all-rounder that will likely suit the majority of your energetic flute-writing needs. 'Emotional' was performed mezzo piano - great for softer contexts. For the 'Fat Lead' patch, Musical Sampling asked Gabrielle to play with as much gusto and power as she could - resulting in an instrument that soars in the upper register with attacks that properly bite.

Like with the Barker Clarinet release, Musical Sampling recorded a series of short and long inhales with both the player and flute in position. Great patch to help sell the performance in between phrases.

- Harrington Bassoon -

Versatile legato bassoon library
Harrington Bassoon is a versatile legato bassoon library featuring performances by Kody Harrington, principal bassoonist of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra (Texas). Recorded at Orb Studios in Austin, it delivers a responsive, emotive, and agile instrument suited for various orchestral contexts.

The "Workhorse" patch offers a balanced mezzo-forte dynamic, while "Emotional" provides expressive, lyrical performances at mezzo-piano, also capable of lighter, more playful passages. Marcato Legato variations enhance phrasing options (detailed in the manual), including a polyphonic marcato patch with dynamic range.

Breath samples were captured throughout, adding realism when placed before or between phrases.

For "Workhorse" and "Emotional" patches, velocities 1-30 trigger a softer attack, 31-114 introduce a stronger attack with round robins, and 115-127 engages immediate vibrato after the attack.

"Marcato Legato" follows similar velocity ranges, with 115-127 activating the marcato articulation. "Marcato Legato Pesante" focuses on marcato sustains at velocities 31-127, while 1-30 triggers a soft attack.

The "Breaths" patch contains various inhale samples, enhancing realism when woven between phrases.

- Parker English Horn -

Agile, energetic & emotive legato English Horn for Kontakt
Parker English Horn is a true legato English horn Kontakt library performed by Dr. Andrew Parker, Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Texas.

After the success of the Parker Oboe collaboration, Musical Sampling had to bring back Andrew to capture the beautiful, dark, mysterious tones of the cor anglais.

The Workhorse patch is great for more exciting contexts; performed with a confident mezzo-forte dynamic while Emotional offers a lyrical/delicate performance at mezzo-piano.

They've also captured a variety of inhale breaths with subsequent "pre-attack" air/tonguing noises - really helps sell the performance when peppered in before/in-between phrases.

- Parker Oboe -

Agile, energetic & emotive legato oboe for Kontakt
With the Workhorse and Fat Lead patches, velocities 1-30 will play a softer attack, 31-114 triggers a more excited attack (with round robins) while 115-127 offers an immediate vibrato following the attack.

For Emotional and Delicate, playing legato at velocities 1-89 will activate performances with natural, progressive vibrato while 90-127 will play back performances with a quicker vibrato entrance - allowing you to enhance your vibrato phrasing on the fly within a melody.

The Breaths patch is a collection of inhales extracted from throughout the session. Integrating breaths before or between phrases can enhance your mockup, infusing it with a sense of presence and authenticity.
