I use these for a dual purpose

I use these for a dual purpose. Lens protection for old Leica-related lenses for my Leica M3, and they are also perfect for color correction when using color Transparency film. Excess blues, UV and Hazes from the atmosphere are radically reduced for more natural results. They can be left on the lenses at all times for impact and dirt protection. Overall these are terrific general purpose filters. B+W and Hoya are the best filters and you cannot go wrong with either. I purchase either brand as available. I always buy Multicoated versions of filters for maximum flare resistance, but this is not always necessary, and in fact filters with fewer or no coatings can be much easier and safer to clean when you are in a very dirty/dusty/wet environment. Buy your types as to your needs. A filter can receive impact damage and save the front element of your lens. Lenses are NOT cheap to replace; don't take chances if you are apt to get your lenses smacked a bit with close-ups, etc. One last item: NEVER overtighten your filters. They do not need it and they will get stuck. Simply snug them up gently and they should not loosen.

About B + W 39 Skylight

• Due to its light pink color, the KR 1.5 reduces excess blue cast giving a pleasing, warmer picture tone.
• At the same time, it blocks ultraviolet light and reduces haze in the scene.
• The skylight filter, like the UV 010, may be kept permanently on the lens for protection.
