The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter has a sharp-cut off absorption to combat unwanted UV and infrared components.
It prevents color casts and blurring for digital cameras where the IR barrier in front of the image sensor still displays some residual transmittance. The 486 filter does not achieve this by absorption via colored glass, but by interference, a number of wafer-thin partially reflecting layers with a precisely calculated thickness. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is clear and colorless and does not require any increase in exposure. It can also be left on the lens permanently as a protection filter. The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter is MRC coated.
Tip
The B+W 486 UV-/ IR-Cut filter works ideally for lenses with an aperture angle up to 60 Degree . The principle of such an interference filter is an aperture angle-dependent color influence that is dictated by physical principles, and as the angle of the incident light increases it drifts towards blue, i.e. for wide-angle lenses, from an aperture angle larger than 60 Degree , the color reproduction at the edge of the image tends to lean towards bluish.
