Review Summary

Sometimes I forget just how much better B+W filters are than others. I again tried a more budget-oriented brand and finally had to replace it. These polarizers are just so good - very pronounced effect, smooth turning, no perceptible color cast, and I have never, not once had a B+W filter get stuck on a lens. I have used the top -of-the-line polarizers from B+W, but honestly this entry-level model is all I need for my professional work.

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Allows plenty of light onto the sensor while blocking reflections from water or chrome. Gives nice rendering of colors without being overly saturated.

An excellent choice

Circular polarizing filter is a must for landscape photography. The B+W was a great choice. It fits snuggly on the lens but is easy to take off when not needed. Allows plenty of light onto the sensor while blocking reflections from water or chrome. Gives nice rendering of colors without being overly saturated.
When capturing the vibrant hues of autumn leaves or the stark contrast of radiant white clouds against a deep blue sky, the 58mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is an indispensable tool for both analog and digital photography. This high-quality polarizing filter enhances the natural purity of colors, significantly boosting color saturation for a more vivid image.
Designed with a rotating mount, this versatile filter allows photographers to visibly control the polarization effect directly through the viewfinder or on the monitor display. This feature provides the flexibility to adjust the filter to the perfect setting for each unique shot.
One of the most effective uses of this durable polarizer is its ability to reduce reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass, and glossy paint. This function allows objects and people obscured by these reflective surfaces to become visible again, offering a fascinating image enhancement without the need for post-processing.
The 58mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter is a circular polarizer, making it compatible with nearly all modern cameras, even when beam splitters are used in the light path for TTL exposure metering or autofocus. This compatibility ensures that exposure errors are avoided, making it an easy-to-use tool for photographers of all levels.
With a multiplying factor of 2 to 3, equivalent to 1 to 1.5 f-stops, this filter outperforms other polarizers that only reach up to approximately 3 stops. This makes it an effective choice for photographers seeking to maximize their control over light and reflections.
For optimal results in landscape photography, the maximum polarization effect is achieved when shooting at a 90-degree angle to the sun. However, due to uneven skylight polarization, it is recommended to use a focal length of no less than 28mm in 35mm format for an even effect across the image.
In an ideal situation, with the right lighting and shooting angles that correspond to the angle of maximum polarization (usually 30 to 40 degrees), this polarizer can completely suppress reflections. This makes the 58mm Basic Circular Polarizer MRC Filter an essential tool for photographers aiming to capture the world in its most vibrant and authentic colors.
