Questions & Answers

CAROL L : is this a brass ring filter?JACKIE M : Yes, this is a brass ring filter, I found it specified as: "Rugged brass filter ring, high quality Schott glass". All of my filters are B+W, they are worth the extra price. If you can spring for a small amount extra ($101. vs. $137.99, I highly recommend the B + W 72mm XS-Pro Digital MRC Nano Kaeseman Circular Polarizing Filter SKU: BW72XSPKCPN MFR: 66-1066399 This LISTS at $366., I have this filter, purchased it from ADORAMA and paid much more than $137.99 - I don't know what happened, but this is a great bargain!! And I was thrilled with it in the $300+ range!! ANOTHER PLUS!! This polarizer filter can be LEFT ON and used in museums and other indoor spaces. The advantage here is you won't ruin your images if you forget to remove the polarizer when shooting indoors!! I just leave mine on the lens I most use it with. Note the SPEC DETAIL BELOW on the extra features the "XS PRO" offers - the slim ring avoids filter vignetting on wide angel lenses, AND the XS-PRO ALSO has FRONT THREADS allowing for additional accessories. . . (see below). (FROM ADORAMA SPECS:) XS-Pro Extra-Slim Provides extra-slim mounting rings that eliminate problems associated with SLR wide-angle and telephoto imaging. This mount is especially suited for DSLRs with wide angle lenses. This mount will avoid vignetting with most 17mm lenses on a full frame body. Some report success with lenses as wide as 16mm. It has a front thread for additional accessories such as lens caps or hoods. All XS-Pro Digital mounts are made of brass and are matte black to prevent reflections. Only UV, Clear, and Käsemann Circular Polarizers are offered in this mount, with the latest MRC nano coating. I can't recommend B+W filters enough, excellent results, high quality glass (without the wearable coatings on lesser quality filters), thin, brass rings, easy to screw on and off without risk of thread stripping. Hope this helps!JANET M : I am not sure if it is brass, but I think b+w does make brass filters. The one I have is black in color, but is not magnetic.JAMES W : I'm not sure what your question means. Therefore my answer is the the ring itself is dull black. I do not know what it is made of. Hope that helps.ELLEN M : I don't know. I just know that it works when I need it! Most of my filters are from B&W, there is less distortion.GEORGE Q : Sice the housing is painted black there is mothing to indicate that this is made of brass. Given its light weight I would suspect it is an aluminum alloy.ROD B : Yes, it is!
Shopper : Thinking of buying this circular polarizer for my Canon 10-22. Will a standard lens cap fit over the filter or will I have to remove the filter before putting the lens cap back on? KathyJACKIE M : Lens cap fits! This is a great filter, worth every penny. I am using it on a Nikon lens, but the threads are such that there is room for a lens cap, so no need to constantly remove the filter. In fact, I get great results indoors and out with this filter, so if you forget to remove it indoors, your images should be fine. This is just another one of the many additional features that justify the price of the B + W filters. It also attaches onto my B+W UV filter and then the lens cap attaches on to the polarizing filter without popping off. Layering filters is not something you want to do with an inexpensive filter as the optics are not refined like expensive filters such as the B+W brand, which would cause image quality to suffer. I have had no problem with both my B+W UV AND B+W Polarizer on the lens at the same time. I frequently use the lens with this set up for commercial projects and the images are tac sharp. When buying filters I now only look at the selections by B+W since there quality meets or exceeds their specifications.GEORGE Q : Standard lens cap fits -Canon eosJANET M : I use this polarizer on a Tamron 18-270 lens and the lens cap works fine on top of this filter.JACKIE M : YES, a standard lens cap WILL fit OVER this great filter. In my case the cap is a NIKON, and the filter is on a Nikon 18-200mm lens. I also have the polarizer OVER my B+W UV filter so I don't have to take that on and off. Some people would disagree about layering those filters, but they are both high quality B+W filters, and that can also make a difference in what you can and can't do without any problems. These filters are worth the money! I also rarely remove the polarizing filter, which typically SHOULD be removed indoors especially. But you will note on most of the B+W filters (perhaps all of them, not sure) that one of their features is that you CAN shoot INDOORS as well as outdoors while leaving the Polarizer ON. If/when you do take the filter off, they easily screw on and off. Yes, these filters are expensive, but if you compare their specs with the less inexpensive filters, there's no contest. They are worth the money for SO MANY REASONS!! Since my first B+W filter, I'm sold, this is my brand to go with my Nikon cameras.Mark C : Yes. A standard lens cap wil fit the filter fine. The B&W Ultra Thin filter won't fit the standard lens cap, but this one definitely willROBERT F : I own a B + W 72mm Circular Polarizer Multi Coated Glass Filter and my camera lense cover fits perfect over the filter.GERALD S : The 10-22 is a 77mm lens. The circular polarizer will accept the standard lens cap.GARY G : Yes, if your lens cap is a standard pinch or screw on cap. This filter has threads on the subject facing side to accept lens caps. You might be better to consider a slim polarizer for a 10-22mm lens. At the 10mm end there could be vignetting with the standard polarizer. The slim filters, however, typically aren't threaded to accept the standard lens cap. They use a friction fit cap that is designed to be lost. Here's an opportunity to take advantage of Amazon's generous return policy, if the B+W filter isn't satisfactory.MICKEY S : I use Nikon lenses and caps. The cap fits perfectly over this excellent filter. JAMES W : You can leave the filter on since the standard lens cap works fine. A note of advice though, circular polarizers tend to give inconsistant results at extreme wide angles. Suggestion: shoot some pictures 90 degrees from the sun ( side lighted) of a clear blue sky at different focal lenghths to determine the effective range of your filter lens combination. Good luck.BRIAN D : I haven't had any issues with my standard Nikon lens cap connecting to this filter. I suspect your Canon lens cap would stay on just fine.NICHOLAS S : Hi, Kathy, First, the 10-22 requires a 77mm and I highly recommend getting the slim version. With the slim version, the standard lens cap will not fit; however, the filter does come with its own cover although it doesn't stay on well. When using the polarizer, I leave the cap off until I switch lenses. Hope this helps, Nick.ROD B : The standard lens cap will work just fine with this filter. It's a fantastic filter by the way and well worth every penny you pay for it.DONOVON W : The standard lens cap will fit fine over this filter.JARROD C : The lens cap should fit the polarizer without any issue.KENNETH F : Kathy, I'm not sure what you mean by standard lens cap, because there is really no standard size. But the cap that came with the lens will fit with the filter on it. You must make sure that the filter is the same as what your lens is. You don't want to buy a 72mm for a 58mm lens. I hope this answers your question. Kenneth
Shopper : Why Did You Choose This?WALTER P : B+W CP Filter are the most reliable in the market, and are worth the additional cost. Frustrated

B&W product quality good as usual. However, Nikon Coolpix P900 does not permit through the lenses viewing, adjusting the polarization is useless.

High quality and superior optics

I am a long time B+W owner. I recently purchased a new lens which used a smaller filter size. Based on my years of happiness with my current B+W polarizer, I again purchased a B+W polarizer. I value their attention to detail, high build quality, and superior optics.

B + W Polarizer

If you buy a $1,500+ lens, don't compromise with a 30 dollar filter. Buy something comparable to the amount you spend on your lens. I hope this makes business sense.

Great quality, very serviceable

Works just like you would expect - screw-on attachment and adjustable polarization by rotating the filter.

Great quality.

This is a well constructed and robust filter. I also have a handful of B+W ND filters and enjoy their products very much. It is important to me to use a filter that does not shift my color. A number of filters on the market do horrible things to your color and are pointless to use. Polarizers have a particular use, so make sure you understand the specific purposes of this type of filter before purchasing.

Lens Protection worth the cost

This works as expected. When you spend hard earned money on the glass you need to protect it, this does that for me.

Very good filter, for the money

Yes, you could spend a couple of hundred on a name brand filter from Canon or Nikon or Hasselblad, but this is definitely a good buy for the money. Good threads, not the kind that tend to cross-thread, and a good smooth rotation. Would recommend to a friend!

Great polarizer

I had all 77mm lenses but then added a 24-70 2.8L 82mm along with a 16-35 2.8L so it was time to add a new Polarizer. I knew B+W products were good but this is really excellent. Quality through and through and it does what it's supposed to do. Adorama is easy to deal with online but sometimes you need to talk to a rep and mine was super helpful. Great service and highly recommend this polarizer.

A Couple of Drawbacks

I use only my Canon's Manual setting, and I use long lenses infrequently. This polarizing screen, while it delivers what it promises, darkens my viewfinder sufficiently that I have great difficulty seeing my exposure information. If I were not retired, this would be a hindrance, as it slows down the shooting process. In addition, the threading on the screen does not meld easily with the lens. This, again, slows me down. That said, the screen removes reflections to provide me with outstanding color rendering.

WORKS WELL WITH SKY & SEA SCENES

This filter worked well while in Florida shooting scenes that included both the blue sky (with varying degrees of clouds) and ocead waters. Helped greatly to limit reflections off the water and to enhance the contrast between the blue of the sky and the white of the clouds.

Excellent, as expected

During our last trip to Sedona, AZ, I did a little experiment of my own: for every red rock, I took two photos, one with this B+W polarizer and one without. Immediately afterwards, right on the camera's monitor, I could see the marked difference in the photos. I don't need any reviews or persuasion on which filters to purchase. For me, it's B+W all the way.

You Get What You Pay For

By Steven L.

Used for landscape color correction/enhancement in skys, and for detailing stream beds. B+W filters are top quality, and multi-coating enhances durability and consistency in all outdoor situations. You get what you pay for; quality gear equals quality results.

Superior CPL

By Lawrence W.

[Use on a digital SLR.] Use mostly outdoors. Cuts haze and pops colors. Most useful to enhance the sky on landscape photos. This filter is made very well. The threads fit perfectly. The glass is multi coated to help prevent lens flare. Makes backlit shots easier. The best circular polarizer I've ever had.

• Polarizer filters evenly increase color saturation of all colors (except black and white), creating deep, rich scenics.
• They add contrast for dramatic skies and ariel shots.
• Polarizers also eliminate glare from highly reflected surfaces like glass and water.
• Polarizers are two part lenses that rotate, allowing you to select the degree of additional saturation, contrast and glare reduction desired.
•They come in two varieties.
• Circular-for all types of cameras (required for beam splitting metering systems commonly found in auto-focus SLR's and in most current TTL Slr's; check your camera's manual).
• Linear-for rangefinders and older SLR metering systems.

B + W Circular Polarizer Features

  • Multi coated for flare prevention.
  • Gives the same deep contrast and glare reducing properties to black and white photography.
  • Combines with Red filters for incredibly dramatic black and white landcsapes.
